"all previous digital incarnations of _a love supreme_ .. derived from a 1971 second-generation master tape. ..it added equalization and compression.. ..and had an inexplicable flaw in the left channel during the first three minutes of _pursuance_..
the problem was caused in the 1971 transfer process. the lp was originally released in 1965 outside the usa and a 3/65 master washington found in emi's london vaults which not only lacked the error, but had neither been subject to equalisation or compression: rudy van gelder: this tape preserve the sonic detail with vivid accuracy. elvin's cymbals, the deep intensity of the vocal chant, and the openness of the group sound."

recorded 9/12/64 at van gelder recording studio, eaglewood cliffs, new jersey usa, produced by bob thiele, engineered by rudy van gelder.
by the date of this cd, impulse was not only part of the verve music group, but this was merely one tentacle of universal music group/umg.

ppint. 15th Mar 2017		n.b. should not be linked to pre-2003 digital masterings (incl. cds)° as they share three flaws which this remaster from a 3/65 master tape discovered in emi london's vault does not possess (left channel first three minutes of "pursuance") and to which it had not been subjected (equalisation and compression). ° - yr hmbl srppnt. does not know whether releases subsequent to this follow this, or the earlier, flawed mastering(s). (the antibes live recording is completely separate, of course.)
