The main highlight for me was the inclusion of the tracks from their debut single produced by Martin Hannett that's otherwise near impossible to obtain, at least affordably.
My copy of this has the same barcode but also clearly has a separate "international" catalogue number as well as the standard UK one.
The disc is different also (I'll scan it when I get to it) - it's black on silver.
My guess is that Silvertone initially pressed it for the UK and then spread the net wider when they realised it was selling well (which I think it did if memory serves correctly?). I further surmise that rather than do a new release they simply started pressing them for the European (or possibly worldwide) market by adding a second catalogue number to the existing release (and leaving the barcode alone).
Anyone know whether my guess is correct?
I also have a copy of the debut album on CD which also has both a UK and international cat no, though that's probably a more conventional reissue (even though, annoyingly, it's only got 1989 as the copyright date and no clues as to the date of the reissue). That one still to come.
Incidentally, I really like this CD, primarily because it has "Mersey Paradise" on it, which is worth the entry fee alone.
