It’s my autographed digipack copy here and I bought it in Paris in 2003 when Petula was doing a signing in the record shop near the Louvre .I am not aware of any British stores selling this release and the German version was a completely different release mostly in the German and English language .I also bought the regular 2cd pack there which also had a French sticker on it
My take on it is that although this was a joint Sanctusry/BMG France release ,Sanctuary in the U.K. did most of the work ,but this was mainly for France and Belgium not the U.K. because in 2002 Petula had a Top 20 album with a 2cd Ultimate Collection featuring many of the songs on here The sticker was obviously also used in French speaking territories such as Belgium and Switzerland but it may well have been sent to other countries too especially the Netherlands without the sticker ,and of course probably Amazon U.K. may have obtained copies .
In France this compilation hit #1 on the Mid price chart ..will add a pic of that where it states distribution was Castle (former name for Sanctuary) Distribution /BMG !!
Magic, it would seem that there are only four versions of this CD. All of them seem to be released for specific EU countries the UK, Germany and two releases from France. This French release has a different barcode to the other listing which has the barcode 5050749230829 (perhaps one is a repress). The UK release has the barcode 5050159016921 and the German release 5050159 009428 which indicates each release is country specific within the EU. On that basis separate entries for each of the four national versions would be required.
(Pun intended... but I can't say I'm too proud of myself!)
... My chain of logic, is in the same style as it is for the Australian stickered releases, in that it may be a generally available European / International release (If also available outside France), but for the addition of the sticker, which makes any copy of it French.
I don't think anyone outside of France would find it with the French language sticker, so it therefore defines it as a French issue... but peel that off, and you have a European International issue.
(albeit, in the case of the Australian issues, there was an alternative catalogue number on the sticker... a more substantive change / definition)
But I am therefore of the view that this could happily remain here as is, so that anyone from France searching for this on site, would come across this as they would have found it in a shop / for sale to them originally, but also, therefore, an unstickered one could be added to site alongside this as Europe / International as appropriate.
(Or alternative language stickered version for the appropriate country).
All views or other opinions are welcome though, as always :)
Are we sure this is a French release? I have a copy (sadly, not an autographed one) with the French sticker on the cover, however the rear of the digipak show a London address. (Although the autographed cover is really cool, I'll upload a scan of the "clean" cover - however, while I usually request the clean image be moved to the "#1" position, I won't here because - it's a Petula Clark autograph!
