Fokeman 2nd Mar 2022		CD Album Aerosmith - Pump (1991)	There are a couple of things that hint that it was a European issue. First it has made in Germany written in French. Second GEMA is German but BIEM tended to be in France and elsewhere in Europe. NOT in Germany which used GEMA exclusively.

Fokeman 28th Dec 2021		CD Album Connie Dover - If Ever I Return (1997)	Apart from all the other links between the musicians on this record, Phil Cunningham had an early relationship with the band Wolfstone and recorded on some of their albums. Here he is joined with his former Wolfstone bandmate, Duncan Chisholm.

Aly Bain works extensively with Phil on their duo records and Hogmanay shows on TV. Christy played with Boys Of The Lough for a short while with Aly Bain.

Fokeman 25th Mar 2021		CD Album Simon Thoumire Three - Waltzes For Playboys (1993)	This combination of Geoff Heslop and Mickey Sweeney has produced the most interesting and best quality of the Tyneside recordings. Probably the entire catalogue of Rubber Records and Black Crow Records as well as much of the Neat Records had one or both of them working. They occupied Impulse Studios for most of the 1970s and 1980s.
Fokeman 19th Mar 2021		CD Album Jethro Tull - A Passion Play (2003)	Just installed QuickTime version 4 to watch this film. Very funny! Very low quality video but really fun to find it on an otherwise fairly standard CD.
Fokeman 5th Mar 2021		CD Album David Allison - Acoustic Movies (1998)	More than just a CD album. A brilliant CDRom too which plays the most perfect video of David playing a brilliant piece on guitar and with loops and effects. Amazing!
Fokeman 1st Mar 2021		CD Album Alasdair Roberts - The Amber Gatherers (2007)	Dr Doom's version is the Promo version. I'm just about to put up the stock version... Believe it or not, I actually had to darken this slightly already to make the white text show up. I don't know if this has faded but it's very pale and difficult to read the text on the cd.

Fokeman 19th Jul 2020		CD Album Luka Bloom - Keeper Of The Flame (2001)	I don't know where Luka got the title for "Urge For The Going" from? Everyone else who ever recorded it including Joni herself called it "Urge for Going" or "Urge For Goin'" Indeed the error appears to be only on the US issue of this CD as the Irish issue managed to get it right. That in a sense makes it even worse that a North American record label couldn't get right a North American song title. (Yes, I know she's Canadian by birth.) Currently resident in L.A. I believe.

Fokeman 26th Apr 2020		CD Album Jimmy Crowley - Jimmy Crowley (1990)	Nora Lee (or Aura Lee as it was originally) had music written by George Poulton. It was later adapted to fit the words to Love Me Tender and performed by Elvis Presley. This is therefore not exactly a traditional tune but quite old nevertheless.

Fokeman 14th Dec 2019		CD Album Yusuf - An Other Cup (2006)	Review I have loved everything Cat Stevens did although all my favourites come from the classics of the Tea For The Tillerman, Teaser & The Firecat etc. I was so disappointed when he let us all down by supporting the Fatwa on Salman Rushdie but I was also so pleased to hear that he was coming back from the deep hole of newly converted dogma. I started playing this album and very soon fell in love with it. I can have it on constant repeat in the car on a 5 hour journey and never tire of it. I love the reworked classic of "I Think I See The Light" but perhaps my favourite is the first track which takes a high moralistic tone and also (let's face it) the point of view of an old man "I avoid the city after dark". We know that he's a little bit scared but also a little bit not happy with the idea of mixing with people having a good time, having a laugh and drinking too much. "In the end" is the song that tells us that we'll all be judged at some stage so we had better treat people well while we're on this earth. "You can't bargain with the truth..." a message for Donald Trump & Boris Johnson. Like they're going to be listening to Cat Stevens! ;-) It's also good that he moves away from his own songs and performs the massive Animals hit (don't forget Nina Simone too) "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". There really isn't a bad track on this album so if anyone else doesn't like it, I recommend persevering with it. It just keeps on getting better, the more you play it. His voice is just the same Cat Stevens that I always loved, his musicians (Alun Davies, Maartin Allcock, Danny Thompson etc.) and arrangements are top-hole just as they always were and apart from a slightly dreamy prayer-like track, it's rivetting from start to finish. Fokeman 8th Nov 2019		CD Album The Corrs - Home (2005)	Quote: does bother to give such minor details as composers as given in the booklet, on the tray inlay, or even on the disc itself - unlike certain contributors... ... but is inexplicably manifestly incapable of ever bothering to use a capital letter or appropriate punctuation in ANYTHING he contributes, which is significantly more annoying than the absence of minutiae!

Fokeman 17th Feb 2019		CD Album Bohinta - Wishes (1996)	Review One of the finest albums of Irish music with Irish instruments such as uilleann pipes, whistles and flutes but with a very modern rock twist. Wonderful melodies and atmospheric songs, super harmonies between Martin Furey's voice and that of his sister Áine. Her voice is simply divine and his is haunting and perfectly tuned to the rock medium. It's a continuous amazement to me that this band weren't snapped up and promoted to be bigger than the most commercial of Irish bands you could imagine. It's a story of corporate greed and big music business attempting to crush musical talent by trying to rip them off and squeeze them in directions the artists had no intention of going in. What is left is a selection of tracks which are often sampled and held up as being the best of Irish Rock. And that is what they surely are. There isn't a bad track on the album. As a footnote, and not the most important part of this review, Martin and Áine are the third generation of professional performers in the Furey family. Their father is Finbar Furey, the piper of the family and successful entertainer of many decades. Their grandfather was Ted Furey, who performed as a fiddler across Europe and who had records of his own released in Ireland, France and Germany. 5 people found this review helpful. ✔︎ Helpful Review?
