CD Album
Poco - The Forgotten Trail (1969-74) (1990)
added both discs catalog numbers, from images supplied

GEMSMFAN
13th Mar 2015
CD Album
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin (1987)
BMG Direct Marketing (music club issue) with no bar code

I'm surprised how Atlantic mistakely used the "SD" prefix used on LP catalog numbers.

GEMSMFAN
13th Mar 2015
CD Album
Toni Tennille - More Than You Know (1984)
early U.S. release (target CD) which was pressed in West Germany, by PolyGram.

GEMSMFAN
12th Mar 2015
CD Album
Dion - Bronx Blues: The Columbia Recordings (1962-1965) (1991)
Correct catalog number for this is CGK 46972.

DIDP is NOT a catalog number, but a number assigned by Digital Audio Disc Corp., when this CD was manufactured (pressed). They were assigned to discs pressed outside the U.S., for sale in the U.S.
D = Digital
ID = Identification Project
P = Popular (music)

fyi: the last letter would be "C" (DIDC) for Classical CD's, in this program

CD Album
Eagles - The Best Of Eagles
Wondering if I should add another submission. Mine has the catalog number here (you submitted) as the bar code only. The catalog number is 960 342-2 on Asylum. The disc was pressed in Germany by Record Service GmbH, Alsdorf.

PCB5394: Does your release have a bar code on the back of the case?

Don't want to submit, if you're submission info would change (possibly being corrected) and my submission is deleted (really extra work now, for nothing, in the future).

Nena - Nena (1983)

GEMSMFAN
8th Mar 2015
CD Album
Nena - 99 Luftballons (1984)
this is an early U.S. CD... I recently read that the original jewel cases were smooth on the top and bottom.. no ridges. This was released in one of those.

GEMSMFAN
8th Mar 2015
CD Album
Eagles - One Of These Nights
Columbia House edition
The odd catalog numbers make it easy to spot these.. also NO bar codes, although the earlier jewel cases didn't have bar codes. Many bar codes were just on the outer packaging.. ah yes, those cardboard long boxes.

GEMSMFAN
5th Mar 2015
CD Album
Dan Fogelberg - Greatest Hits (1984)
this is a Columbia House Record Club (CRC) edition... dummy bar code... club editions really didn't need bar codes. BMG/RCA club didn't have any.

GEMSMFAN
5th Mar 2015

Toto - Past To Present 1977-1990 (1990)
D111510 - BMG Music Club edition (no bar code)

Freddie King - Are You Ready For Freddie? (2004)
Isn't the Label, Fuel 2000? also the bar code should be, 030206139426??

CD Album
Angelique Kidjo - Black Ivory Soul (2002)
not "International', this is a U.S. release. U.S. Columbia catalog number (prefix "CK")
European release is Columbia, 506069 2 or COL 506069 2.

GEMSMFAN
21st Feb 2015
CD Album
The Byrds - Sweetheart Of The Rodeo (1997)
curious how this is "International" this is a U.S. release on Columbia / Legacy (and a reissue of the original CD - CK 9670 on Columbia)

Europe release, Columbia: COL 486752 2 or just 486752 2
U.K. (reissue) release, Edsel: EDCD 234

It was re-released as 2 CD's Deluxe as Columbia / Legacy C2K 87189 (U.S.)
and COL 510921 2 (Europe)

GEMSMFAN
21st Feb 2015
CD Album
C + C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (1990)
curious to how this is "International"? It is a U.S. release... Canada released this also with this
number, but does 2 countries qualify as "International"?

Europe/Australia use 467814 2 or COL 467814 2, on Columbia.

CD Album
Quarterflash - Girl In The WInd (1991)
this has a release date of 11-21-91. 1990 is the copyright, but check image 675187 (lower right). Japanese releases usually include the Release Date on back of obi or inlay.

GEMSMFAN
14th Feb 2015
CD Album
The Beach Boys / Jan And Dean - The Beach Boys Vs. Jan And Dean: The Greatest Hits 15 (1986)
This was released back before there were any official "Beach Boys" Capitol CD's.
What surfaced on several CD's from the odd labels were the BB's Hite Morgan studio
recordings. Note there are several "Morgan" compositions... instrumentals, of course.

Not sure, if the Jan & Dean recordings were the ones released on Liberty...

GEMSMFAN
13th Feb 2015
CD Album
Patty Loveless - Dreamin' My Dreams (2005)
not a U.S. release... the EPC prefix is not U.S. Epic

the U.S. release is "EK 94481" on "Epic / Jahaza"

GEMSMFAN
11th Feb 2015
CD Album
Various Artists - TV Land Presents Favorite TV Theme Songs (2002)
all of these are by the original artists, although not all are the versions used in the shows.
Some were re-recorded for singles/albums at the same time that the shows debuted. Others, the TV versions had inferior sound. Television was broadcasted in mono at the time, so the greatest sound wasn't needed.

Track 25 "Happy Days" was used during the end credits, while Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" was used at the shows' beginning. Pratt & McClain recorded a new version (different lyrics, also by Gimbel/Fox), which became the beginning theme. It was credited to "Pratt & McClain with Brotherlove".

GEMSMFAN
8th Feb 2015
CD Album
Bobby Vinton - Bobby Vinton's Greatest Hits (1990)
this is a U.S. release, not International

can someone understand.. the EK prefix in the catalog number, was for U.S. Epic compact discs (followed by a 5-digit number... i.e. EK xxxxx
.... in Europe and elsewhere, EPC was used or no prefix and the catalog number was 6-digits, space and a 2, i.e. "xxxxxx 2"

GEMSMFAN
2nd Feb 2015
CD Album
Smokey Robinson And The Miracles - Great Songs And Performances That Inspired The Motown 25th Anniversary Television Special (1987)
I realize you bought this under the new number, but I would've stuck with the original catalog number and original release date... 1987, since that was how this was manufactured. The new number only is applied to the back of the case. The spines, disc, etc. all don't have the change. The new number should be an unlinked alternate. This is the same as calling a commercial release (with bar code), a "promo" merely because the manufacturer stickered it as such. The change is just because the Label changed owners. The info of this really belongs in "Notes". If you replace the case (say, if it gets damaged), it would be like an original...

Various Artists - Super Hits Of The '70s: Have A Nice Day, Vol. 5 (1990)
@ henry29 & The_Vinyl_Junkie: mine are also individually jewel cased. the cardboard long box was the outer packaging that ALL U.S. CD's were packaged in for security and most people threw them away. ...and any CD's that didn't come with them, were packaged in similar clear plastic packs that were heat sealed or stapled together. Some stores had their own special security case which was unlocked at the counter. Import CD's were usually locked in display cases and you got a salesperson to give you the CD's.

Actually, the record industry was in one way helping record stores. Since LP's were slowly on their way out, the approx. 5½ x 12¼ box allowed stores to use their existing record bins to display the then new CD format, by splitting the bins.

Europe, Japan and almost everywhere else. New furniture had to be ordered to store the little jewel cases.

.... Everyone remember the LIFT system? I'm sure that was widely used in shops in Europe... empty CD cases displayed.. CD's at the counter in a large filing drawer....
