Discogs copy of this has a sticker on the front of the custom case that says..."Ltd. edition includes free pop-up."
This copy doesn't,and nothing popped up, nor indeed popped out ;). so can't confirm if all of these did pop-up,and, have no idea what that pop-up was either.

Various Artists - Beat The Retreat (1994)
Hi,me again;)
This particular entry is a Promo release (i've submitted a correction), and, doesn't appear to have a barcode (although Discogs has one listed, ( assumed from the Cat.No perhaps.)
I think you have the stock European release perhaps, this one maybe?, (although Discogs doesn't have any more pics, just the front cover on this one), with the Cat.No. 0946 3 67471 2 5 (including spaces, which are actually important to note whilst entering CD's). and 094636747125 barcode, and under Capitol/EMI.
So, yours would warrant it's own separate European entry.
There is also the European/UK release,(so European) under Capitol/EMI here, with two Cat.No's, 7243 8 31482 2 6, and CDEST 2242 for the UK (found in the barcode box), and barcode 724383148226.
As a general rule of thumb, it's a good habit to copy (exactly, spaces and all,and in it's entirety) the Cat.No from the spines of a CD's artwork, i've found 9 times out of 10, it's normally the correct one. Additional/secondary Cat. No's are important too, and differentiate between certain releases, and they can be found, either in the artwork, or in the Disc rim text.
Welcome to the wonderful world of CD identification, a desert island and some sandwiches, sound good:)
(If you (or any other members(gulp) are ever stuck with one, don't hesitate to send me a PM, where, maybe, i might be able to help, or not:)

Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.
I would be somewhat wary of matching similar Disc designs to use as a date indicator,we have found in the past that this is often inaccurate, due to the fact that companies often kept stock of CD's on shelves (sometimes for years) before/until new stock was needed, and so, sometimes, the "manufactured" date does not always equate to the actual release date of a particular CD in every case.
(just a heads up;)

Bruce Springsteen - In Concert / MTV Unplugged (1993)
Have requested a date change to April 1993. Scans are added from later releases, only if there is a difference from the original, (and they have exactly the same Cat.No./barcode/label) that's why. in this case, just one scan needed to be added, the rear tray artwork differed (i did spot the different retail price codes etc as well;).

Tangerine Dream - Tournado > Live In Europe (2004)
Apparently these budget releases from Documents suffer from poor sound quality...
"Label imprint of German budget label Membran. Quality of their releases varies a lot. Their mid-2000s compilations and box sets are miserable. Due to poor sources (possibly mp3s?) and awful mastering, sound quality is horrible. These releases are marred with audible sizzle, excessive echo and distortion. I'd strongly suggest to avoid these older titles.
However, quality of their releases has improved during the time. Their mid 2010s box sets are actually pretty ok. Sound quality is definitely better than before. Most blatant issues have been fixed. Although these newer releases are still far from audiophile standards, they are not terribly defective either."
although, on this particular release, no such problems, sound quality is good.

That's curious, only, the only one's i can find all are,it's not marked on the back, just a small box on the Disc itself.Just wondered, that's all.
Does the Cat.No. start with 088 though?,which i think the US releases were prefixed with,only,if it's just 170 189-2,then i think it's European.

Ravi Shankar, Alla Rakha - The Ravi Shankar Collection (2000)
NB : Have added Alla Rakhar here as the second artist,as he was credited along with Ravi on the original LP,but if you wanted to list it under just Ravi, happy with that either way. Also,i believe "The Ravi Shankar Collection" may be the series name, and that "Rāgas And Tālas" might be the sole album title, but as it is on the spines on this one, have included it in the title.

Simple Minds - Life In A Day (1986)
Agreed Lee,they had not found their identity quite yet, still searching for that "Simple Minds" sound, indeed,if you were to hear this without identification,it could have been any one of 1000's of New Wave bands around at the time.As you say,not great, but not too bad for a debut 6/10

Simple Minds - Life In A Day (1986)
Was this their debut?,only we have "Real To Real Cacophony" listed first chronologically for the vinyl album.Only Discogs also puts "Real To Real.." at the top of their list,i.e,earliest, and yet, they have a date of Nov '79 for "Real To Real..",and May '79 for "Life In A Day"?.
In the liner notes for "Real To Real Cacophony",it also says..."Recorded and mixed September '79"?

@MoreFloyd
Hi,interesting question, and one i've often pondered myself,The earliest Barcode/Cat.No./Price Code box we have on this site (under Europe/Italy,at least) are for 1990,i can't see any before (there's one Iron Maiden but that's a reissue that's scanned),although not all entries have the rear tray artwork scans,so can't be sure, there may well be cases of use in 1989?,and i'm trying to remember if i've seen any myself, but can't recall at the mo.Perhaps other members may be able to shed more light on when they first started to be used?.
cheers

I've just got hold of a copy myself, and it has no barcode/box sticker on the back,i don't think it's just that it may have been peeled off,as there is no trace,i wonder, therefore,if my copy might have been part of a larger set perhaps.

May i ask why you,as a Moderator, are using CD Album images in their cases, for the first/primary image, which is not the way everybody else on the site are adding them?,it was discussed many times in the past, and was generally thought that the out of case booklet front should be used as the main/1st image,as cases vary condition-wise,are sometimes tinted, have different stickers depending on country, and that the out of case scan is larger, and therefore easier to read small text/numbers,and therefore front of booklet has been the norm.In-case images can be added to the rest of the scans if required,to show tints/stickers/different coloured trays etc.
Are you doing it therefore just to be different?,should you not lead by example and stick to the overall style of the site?,or should we all be adding images as we like?

@Quad5point1
Hi,i remember raising this question a fair while ago, after adding a Bruce Springsteen CD from Columbia, which, has allocated three different numbers, one for each Disc.
I feel that they are a secondary Cat.No of some sorts, and not a part number as suggested at the time,as they are on many Columbia releases of the same period, and why go to the trouble of printing the numbers on both Disc and artwork (as is common) if they were not used by someone?
The question,is whether they should be added as secondary Cat.No's,or,merely put in the notes.I would now favour the latter perhaps,as i think they are Cat.No's,but may have been used "in house"by Columbia, and not for commercial purposes?,only a Columbia employee could confirm or deny for sure perhaps, one day we'll find out,no doubt.
The sensible thing then perhaps,is just to add them to the notes for the mo,as not to confuse matters, one for the Mod's methinks;)
