Another of these "DMCL" prefixed CD's from MCA,gawd knows what the idea here was?,it may be that they introduced these Cat.No's when the address changed (as per the Gary Moore one i recently added)?,or used them first? and then changed to "MCD or MCAD..."?,i'm not sure.Disgcogs doesn't have this one (they do now,i've added it,pending moderation),which uses a solitary "DMCL" Cat.No.,just this one,which has the two Cat.No.'s.(although that one has the same 72/74 Brewer St address,so??)

Hi,no i quite agree,it does sound daft,that's why i'm curious to know,but i have seen cases of European made fake-Japanese CD's,i.e,they never make it to Japan,and they turn up at UK record fairs in the UK etc.,that's why i'm interested to see the scans.
You're right about the early days of CD's of course,when Japanese/German made CD's were made for the US/European/world markets,but this is different,the fact that Discogs has them as "Partially Unofficial" still intrigues,and the fact it has the Italian S.I.A.E.rights agency on the Disc says to me that something dodgy is going on somewhere;),as i say,it would be nice to see a separate entry with scans if you could,then we could debate as to whether it's Italian or Japanese;)

Hi,is yours this one on Discogs?,as it's a different label (BS)(Buena Suerte Industrias Musicales Inc) and different Cat.No./has barcode, it will need to be deleted here and a new entry created.
Discogs has a few of these and has them marked as "Partially Unofficial",and they are all under "Japan",it would be handy if you could create an entry with accompanying scans if poss to help identify.
It's unclear from the Discogs entry where this the Disc was made,Italy perhaps?,although they say in the notes that somewhere there is "Made in Japan/Manufactured in Japan",possibly on the artwork?
So,was it/are they an Italian release with Disc made in Italy,a type of Italian semi boot made for the Japanese market,and the artwork was printed in Japan?
(i.e,an Italian fake-Japanese release)
or something else?
Curious;)

Curious one.This one has the two albums Stray Cats / Gonna Ball,but it uses the title "Runaway Boys" for the "Stray Cats" album,looking at Discogs only the Australian release was titled "Runaway Boys" instead of "Stray Cats",and,now this one (which they don't have).So unsure as to how you want the title written?,like i have done here,or "Runaway Boys (Stray Cats) / Gonna Ball" or something similar?,i'll leave it up to you.
The card slipcase houses the two stock European releases (253 295) and (254 019) already on the site (all artwork/Discs match exactly).

@leonard
? You've got me worried leonard ;)
And with all due respect to you Mod's who give their time for this site,surely,as a Mod,you have to be sure either way to make a decision like this,and please be honest,do you have any proof that all of these Spectrum CD's were issued in either the UK only,or Europe only?,because,if not,quite frankly,it's a guess,and you're about to change members entries on a guess,even if it is an educated one,to say that the people who entered their CD as UK (188 entries) were wrong,or that they didn't know is a fairly big assumption to make to say the least.You are prepared to make these all European on what basis?,that the Discs/artwork were made in Europe,because that is no proof of anything when it comes to where the CD's were actually put on sale,many UK (only) destined CD's were made in Europe.
Using the same logic,then why not change all 1829 Netherlands CD's to Europe?,after all,they were made there.And that's the reason for my concern,at the drop of a hat,or,dare i say,on a whim?,you want to make an entire label European,once a CD is made European,it loses it's true identity just as if you were making it International.I voiced my concern when you recently made all entries under the Companion label "European",using similar premises,despite the fact that the
majority of entries were already under "Denmark",and my suggestion that they were possibly not issued in Europe but just Denmark,and were therefore more likely Danish,and correct as they were,but you made a decision based on your own personal beliefs,and so these CD's,once Danish,are now in the faceless catch-all we call Europe,and (don't get me wrong,you may still be proven to be correct,but it's the way you came about making that decision the concerns me).This site,i'm glad to say,has always been about democracy,it has to be to work,there is no room for any ego's here,if i'm wrong (quite often,and will continue to be i expect;),then i freely admit it,the site is much bigger than any one person,and i'd like to think decisions are made by discussions between members/Mod's,and decisions are thereby arrived at with a concensus of opinion,but,at the same time,if no one knows for sure,then that's surely the reason not to change anything,until proven.
Leaving the entries under both the UK/Europe does no harm whatsoever IMHO,what advantage is to be gained by lumping them together under Europe?,none IMHO,and perhaps some were just issued in the UK and so are correct as they are,why not wait until we can be more certain.
(Forgive me voicing my concerns.and there is nothing personal at all in this leonard )

@leonard
I can understand where you're coming from,in that perhaps there is no one indicator,to determine between UK/Europe,but surely,it would be a bit rash to lump everything together under Europe,until someone can tell us that that was definitely the case.I understand that the UK is part of Europe of course,but being such a large market,and still often kept separate,what is the harm in leaving the UK ones as they are for now,until we can positively say that they were/weren't issued in Europe as well,Discogs uses "UK & Europe".Of course,as is common with CD's,nothing seems to be set in stone,and looking through the UK Spectrum Music entries,they seem to vary,some specifically state "Distributed in the UK by "Spectrum Music",some have the "KA 506" (Karussell) Price code,some have "PY 500" (Polydor),does that mean there was a difference distribution wise?,to be honest,i don't know,and as i've suggested before,we won't know for sure until we can talk with someone who has worked in the business,specifically in CD distribution.Here's hoping that such a person becomes a member and can advise us.Personally,i'd leave them as they are for now,until we are better informed.

Agnetha And Frida - The Voice Of ABBA (1994)
Hi guys
Where the CD was made does not unfortunately determine where the CD was put on sale,many Discs were made in various European countries,but were destined for/put on sale in the UK only,for example.
The thing to look out for is the presence of a French retail price code,in this case "KA 506"(if the rear tray artwork matches this one of course),normally two letters followed by three numbers,normally in a box somewhere around the barcode/Cat.No on the rear tray artwork,as these French retail price codes were not used by UK retailers as far as i know,so if it's got these codes on the back,it's European.
(so Europe is correct on this particular one,if it has the code;)

It's daft,but i did not realise TD were responsible for this soundtrack until i recently got this CD.I'm both a TD fan and a fan of this film,so gawd knows how i didn't notice it before now;).
Ridley Scott's tale of good vs evil is surely much better than the 6.5 it's currently scored on IMDB (IMHO).
Large,lavish sets/costumes,an excellent performance of the Lord Of Darkness played by Tim Curry (great costume/voice),good performances by Tom Cruise and Mia Sara also,along with elves/goblins/fairies,what's not to like:)
((It appears that the 2002 "Director's Cut",is worth seeking out also,almost a different film apparently)

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing Of Summer Lawns (1987)
@Lee Wrecker
Hi Lee,
Taking time to look at this particular CD again using Discogs,it appears that this one is listed as the first time it was issued on CD?,i.e,1987?,there are,of course,always the ones at the bottom of Discogs lists that don't yet have dates allocated to them,so,of course,there may well have been an earlier release,but i wonder now that we can see the longbox pictures,which use the 1051-2 US cat,and have the same barcode,whether this CD may have been out of a longbox?.
It would normally follow that a US and European release would be around the same date,only the next US release according to Discogs is 1990,and that was for a club edition and a remaster.
Unsure to be honest,but if pushed i would assume this was issued in the US also,as theoretically it was perhaps the initial/first release.
(Anyhow Lee,it's only one among hundreds of CD's,so not worth falling out over,no worries;)
(Apologies to both you and Phil by the way,i have to admit that i often do not express myself correctly/fully in words,and have a habit of leaving some people in the dark about what i'm actually on about;)
(PS I know that you and i both want simplification of the International category,it's just getting others on-board,and coming to some kind of agreement on how it should actually be put into practice (easier said than done;)(one day,hopefully;)

????
This product has two Cat No's,one for UK/European market,one for the US,there is no doubt this is therefore truly International,am i missing something?,can you not see the difference between a European product that might have been put on sale in Australia at a regular price and this?.
Lee,i was trying to help you out with regard to Australian releases,with a couple of suggestions that might have made it less stressful,i wish i hadn't bothered frankly.
I suggested that adding a note may have been the way forward,instead of making what is,quite clearly,a European entry International,and thereby losing it's identity,once you make things International when you are searching for albums,all you see is a thumbnail and International,you only find out that it's European by clicking on it,and hoping someone has bothered to write it in the notes,otherwise it's confusing for new members to see a European CD designated as International.
I still stand by my suggestion that we get rid of International,i would,instead much prefer to see a list of countries/flags that it was issued in,so,in the Joni Mitchell case,three "country's"
listed UK/EUROPE and US,with three little flags,i have said this many times in the past,but nothing has been done about it yet,this way,it is immediately obvious which countries it was released in,not simply under the catchall "International",the other CD would have Europe/Australia and two flags.This way,whilst searching/browsing CD's,you wouldn't have to keep clicking on the International ones to see where they were from/issued.
With regard to all other International entries,and probably the bulk of all International entries,we have simply combined two or more CD's that happen to share the same Cat.No/barcode/label.What is the point?????,i see no purpose in this at all,and it was this i was really meaning when i said get rid of International,the practice of combing two or more CD's together is surely a mistake?.When the site first started i suspect it was thought this would be a good idea,as it was probably thought that many world-wide releases would all have identical details,and we would save space/time by combining them together on one page,whereas,we know now this is not the case,slight differences in Cat.No's,spaces/hyphens/secndary Cat.No's etc. actually identify it as a specific country's release.and so now,we are in the position of combing two CD's that have matching details,from two different countries,and call Them "International",where in reality,and in all likeleyhood,neither CD would have been issued in the country they have been "joint" with.
So,IMHO,it's pointless,and doesn't tell us anything but "look,here's two CD's with the same details"!
I stand by what i've said,and want no more to do with it,i tired of this International discussion years ago,and we keep going over the same stuff,you guys over in Aus can continue to do as you see fit,and i'll do as i see fit;)

This is different Phil,this is a truly international item,the same CD being issued in UK/Europe/US.
(my apologies though,obviously there are real "International" candidates,and this one would be included,but there are many,many more that aren't)
What we are doing at the moment is calling any CD that uses the same Cat.No./label/barcode "International",so,forinstance,if an Argentinian CD and an European CD happen to have identical No's.,we are grouping it together on one page and calling it "International",even though the Argentinian CD would never have been issued in Europe,and the European CD never had been issued in Argentina!.
I'm just trying to get people to see the futility of it all,it's just confusing the hell out of this world.

@Lee Wrecker
Hi Lee,may i make a suggestion?.
If i were you i would just add any stock European CD's that you think were also put on sale at a regular price in Australia (i.e,not sold as a higher price import) as well,as simply European,just add to the notes something like "This exact CD was also on sale in Australia",that way,you have done nothing wrong,and if,for some strange reason,someone wants to make it International,then that's their prerogative,not yours,so no more stress wondering whether to make Aussie CD's International or not,there is no point IMHO,it serves no purpose,a note is all that's needed surely?.
As for Australian CD's,i.e,Disc/artwork made in Aus or even ones that might use The European CD,but have say the artwork printed in Aus,then enter them as Australian,after all,that's where they were intended for,don't worry if there is a European CD already on the site that might share the same Cat.No./label/barcode.
Enter the CD for where you think it was intended for,that's what i do,for goodness sake,let's get rid of the totally useless "International" once and for all ;)
