Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1998)
This and this are the same album in spite of the fiddling done to differentiate the cat#s. The cat# on the linked release should be corrected to 7243 4 9 5401 2 5 (as listed on the spine and CD) and not just be the abbreviated to the ordering numbers 4 9 5401 2. Anyway the entries need to be merged into one International entry as should the rest of Jethro Tull's CDs released at the same (there was a run of them). How much of this abbreviated cat#s malarkey is going on to keep national identities for local CDs?

Merged (mod.edit)

This one is International same cat#, label and barcode for USA, Canada, and Europe. My European issue was bought in Australia so they certainly got this one distributed globally.

Lesley Gore - The Golden Hits Of Lesley Gore (1987)
The barcodes are different 042281037023 is not the same as 0042281037203 and the extra 0 is important. The cat# here should be 810 370-2 M-1 as is pictured (bottom right, insert). This cat# appears on the spine of this CD as well and can be seen here. So two distinct differences Jasper, I'd enter your copy as Australian.

The extent of this may never be known Phil. I do know a lot of USA releases particularly niche market sub-labels like this made there way here over time.

Air - Talkie Walkie (2004)
This one weirdly has two very similar cat#s 72435 966002 8 / 7243 5966002 8 the spine has the first one and the back cover, inlay and CD have the other one. This disc was made in Uden, Nederlands.

This may well be that rarest of beasts a UK release? I will upload the EU version soon and that has a different cat# and barcode.

The Rolling Stones - Emotional Rescue (2005)
An odd 2005 Tour repackaging of the 1994 USA/EU CD remaster which had the same barcode (724383952328). The US 1994 release had a different cat# 7243 8 39501-2-6 but that changed to 7243-8-39523-2-8 in 2003 to match the barcode and coincidentally the 1994 EU releases.

The cardboard slipcase is the only thing that differentiates this CD from the others mentioned above but that of course has a new barcode and cat# on it. It's smacks of "mutton dressed as lamb" as we say down here. The "Stones" back-catalogue has been ruthlessly dealt with in the re-issue era.

All the rides in the park are the same Magic. They may have different facades and gatekeepers but once you pays yer money and get on you can't get off as Greg has found out. Lucky for me I have a job to periodically keep me away from the lure of 45 Worlds and endless fussing over minor details. Now what can I see lying around I haven't scanned and entered yet? Oh, here I go again into the vortex. Only 15 000 to go Magic - will Friday next week be convenient?

I see Jasper, it's a swag but nevertheless a curious title. PhilMH would probably be the only able to pin a year on this one but it's sort of site policy that boutique labels precede the majors.

Hi Jasper, I would have gone for Gum Leaf over EMI as the label. I had a squizz on the other site and they've gone Gum Leaf as well. Here's a question though what is the song "Humpin' My Bluey" all about? Sounds a bit near the knuckle to me.

Misty's Big Adventure - The Black Hole (2005)
I wrote a comment about the now notorious deleted photo in question but deleted it before I posted it in anticipation. The image however has not completely disappeared and is seared into my brain somewhere and won't budge. The thing that struck me most Greg, apart from the obvious toad in the gob, was that you seem have borrowed my ripping set of muscles and weird ears for the photo. You can send them back to me via PM when you're done with them.

Neil Young - Harvest (1984)
The Australian cat# for this release is 22772 without a hyphen. This is a common way our industry deals with what at first seem to be international cat#s but then end up completely unique usually by omitting all spaces and hyphens. So, although the Australian version uses the same cat#s that cat # is still different. Are the CDs the same or different? I say different because I wouldn't be comfortable adding a CD to international listing if the cat# didn't match exactly.

ady-lister says"Reasons: Cat#: 2277 is the USA reissue # and (2)44 131 is the Euro/German # so it's obviously intended for both markets." However, the presence of of multiple international cat#s is really no proof at all that a CD was in fact released in that market. I have plenty of CDs with French, German and EU cat#s that are Australian only releases. Artwork on CDs barely changes and cat#s particularly those in the barcode (or price code) box are often just transferred from region to region regardless of whether they are relevant or not.

Bob Dylan - Street-Legal (1999)
This is a singularly Australian release Phil, and correctly listed. If we go the New Zealand route we may also have to look at the other controversial market sharing part of the world which is the USA and Canada. Many CDs from the USA and Canada have the same details but are listed separately here on the site. Technically, they all should be international but that really would put the cat among the pigeons, wouldn't it? I still would prefer them listed separately but that's not the way we're meant to do it here. Unfortunately because most people can't be bothered with checking the details of other CDs from different countries what we have here on the site is a lot CDs that should in fact be international. Well, according to the site guidelines. However, most people just disregard those and enter CDs how they see fit.
Changing them all over would be a nightmare and the category itself is certainly not the "catch all" it was intended to be. Most CDs still have 6-10 different combinations of cat#, label and bar code that serve 6-10 different markets or countries if you like. So just because products in the EU have lost their national and regional (EU) identity doesn't necessarily make this a global phenomenon.

Magic, I see I was right in my first sentence! With stuff I don't want or have mistakenly bought I usually wait to find someone that likes the artist and gift it to them. Knowing it goes to someone that likes it is more important to me than selling things for profit. Not saying I don't sell stuff, I do but if I can find a happy home first I prefer that method of off-loading my excess baggage.

Nothing wrong with giving things away, I say, so long as you don't ask for them back :)

My feeling is to wait and see what the MODS come up with regarding classifying countries. Unless you want to add the EU copy now then you would probably have to add it here and change this listing to international. I'm personally in favour of keeping listings such as this separate but the current guidelines do say otherwise as I said in my earlier comment.

Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (1987)
Hey Magic, do you really sell these things or do you just tally up imaginary values for them in your head? I'm asking because I'm usually very disappointed if I have to sell something from my collection because it usually means I've made a bad choice and don't like it. Maybe I'm a collector and you're a wheeler dealer but I must admit I did sell some rare stuff in my collection when I was a student - just so I could eat - and nah it's worth fowsands. These were four singles current market value 7 fowsand of your money. I think I got $500 for them 30 years ago not that bad really but of course I recorded them all first though so I still have it in one way or another.

On another matter I had a bash at your clown suit idea last night and Mrs. Wrecker just said "what've you got your work clothes on in the house for." Sometimes you just can't win. Wehoo! Squonk, Squonk.

Deep Purple - On The Road (2001)
Hey Greg, apparently "Highway Star" is tacked onto 3-4 Going Down but unlisted on the tracklist. Personally, I'm not fussed with Deep Purple but this set looks great and I'm strangely interested in how good it might be. Do you know the sources of the recordings already and is it looking promising? I should have known I asked the question and then the scan appeared with all the details.
Cheers.

This one was also released in the Philippines with the same details. So an Australian, European and Filipino release only. Hardly what I would consider to be international but it is according to us and that's why I listed this one this way. I would personally prefer the three releases listed as separate entries.

Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (1987)
You might like your chicken a little spicier Mr. Magic may I suggest you try "Ricochet ". In the end though what you have described is what Tangerine do but unlike you I find them immediately identifiable and distinctive and the same goes for Brian Eno. I always think of Tangerine Dream as more structurally linked to classical music and Eno, well, tied to or heavily influenced by his "oblique strategies". I do like both the artists you have mentioned in your review but don't eat chicken so I can't really relate to the analogy.

Lou Reed - Transformer (1998)
Hi ppint,
This I believe was only released in the EU and Australia and nowhere else according to this list. So technically according to our current guidelines you are right that this should be international. However, you're also right in that this is probably not a satisfactory way to list these two issues. The two versions are clearly made for separate jurisdictions and not intended to be sold in both markets. Just goes to show how preposterous the current guidelines are really.

Remember the European Lou Reed "Transformer" crisis of 1998 when stocks of the CD were so scarce that BMG had to enlist Eurovision ally Australia to gear up production of the CD for the ravenous EU market. No? Neither can I.

Apparently, a solution from the MODS is "coming soon" to CD Albums and we may be best to park this in the kennel with the other international sleeping dogs until we see what that may be.
