Madonna - Who's That Girl (1987)
Going to keep this a Madonna album, even though it has other artists on it... although spines give no artist info, other cover art and disc show Madonna - Of course her presence is / was the main selling point of the movie and album, these factors, as well as it being on her label of that time, and that people searching generally consider this one of her albums would look for it under her discography, make me judge it wise to keep it as is.

Steve Winwood - Back In The High Life (1986)
Review
I have this on both original vinyl and this CD now, and can report that they both sound pretty much identical.

So nothing to be gained or lost by having this great album on one of these formats over the other

It is in the best sense, a typical eighties sounding album, big synth-y sounds, with dramatic punctuation in the music, all the along the same lines as the lead track, which you all know: Higher Love... But fortunately, like that one, although the Eighties sound is a feature, it's one of those that mercifully avoids sounding dated (too much, anyway), and the songs are consitently strong throughout.

The two other stand-outs here being the Title track: Back In The High Life (Again), and the final track, which ought to come with a warning, for as I remember it, on first hearing, so long ago, it's a perfect break-up song... in that it is pre-eminent in making you perfectly miserable, if you're going through something like that, and along with Hall & Oates: She's Gone, are masterful in being as much a tonic in such a situation as this as a stiff kick in the balls.

(To the extent that if you are on of those other kinds of humans, who have no balls, it will make you feel like you did, and you had been kicked in them... by a large man with heavy boots and a very long leg :(

Sugarplum - Blue Summer Days (1997)
If this was available in Japan with obi, intended for release there this way, then Japan is correct...

...If the exact same item was available in US, minus obi, then it can be listed again that way, as US issue (We have the same nonsense with European issues, with a slapped on sticker barcode, rendering it Australian...take off the sticker... it's European! It's Magic!!!)

((Important to remember that we want country of release, as it is / was to be found there, so anyone searching for their item would be informed to know what they have. - Might be helpful in this regard to add a note to any US replication of this entry, as a purchaser in Japan may have lost their Obi, and so think they have a US issue - this would clear the matter up for them, and inform.))

Japanese target disc needs it's own entry... those distinctive red print targets on silver stock were not made for anywhere outside Japan.

Made in Japan target discs available elsewhere were made with printed colour discs, and coloured targets.

So As RPfiller made this page with those Japan images, I'm going to change this page to Japan, and if there is not already a page (I think there might be) for the made in West Germany target, it needs one added for your images edlongus, designated: "International", as they were available all over (made for international distribution- being early CDs, not many places outside Germany or Japan could make them yet, so these supplied those markets, until the US began making CDs, so made in US targets exist, but Individual European countries were served by these German targets, until they could make their own, by which time, either targets were black printed silver stock, or not target designs at all any more.

Following a correction request, asserting that two versions were issued with the same details, one USA, other Europe, and that each was not available in the other territory, I have changed this to USA, and made a new European entry (linked below - 1998 version - needs scans).

(Effectively unmerging this entry).

Bob Marley And The Wailers - Exodus [Deluxe Edition] (2002)
And just a note on this brain meltingly confusing issue...

...Remember that we are trying to add items according to country / territory of release on this site, not where it was made, or the political framework in which these markets operated in, necessarily...

(Although these factors can help narrow the likelihood of place of issue)

...For there are exceptions.

There are items on site, which begin with an exclusive issue in one country only (such as UK), but then have a European issue as well, and sometimes both being issued in parallel, so both the European issue and UK only issue being available in UK at the same time!

And then there's Italy, for so long issuing it's own er... issues separate from general European issues of the same item - and to be considered separately - although Italy has always been a member of the EU.

So it's not cut and dried according to any one measure.

We use individual countries for when an item was issued in that country only (regardless of whether it was exported elsewhere), and Europe for any item that was released in at least two or more separate countries European countries, even if not available in other European countries, who may have their own issue.

(And at the risk of pulling the pin on this particular hot potato topic grenade again, if an item was issued in one or more European countries, and at least one other country outside Europe - Australia, for instance, it is, by definition, International release / issue (intended for those markets), and that's how it should be entered here on site.

Confused?

...Good :D

Don't blame us, blame record companies, political economic treaties, and other market shenanigans / inconsistent practices / corner cutting (possible corruption), and a general bollocks job of the all the aforementioned by those involved for creating this tangled web of nonsense.

Just enter as best you can, to the best of your own knowledge, without fear of being corrected, and then, if someone knows better, they can have the item amended by means of correction, perhaps after discussion or debate to determine the facts... that's what the site is designed to do, and allow us all to do...

It's a beautiful thing :)

So it's a mispressing Careys!

(Quick, sell it for a grand! :)

But that could mean this was only in print for a short spell in this form, as it seems the likely candidate fora withdrawal from sale, until replaced by issue with correct barcode.

But the fact that it has an erroneous barcode from an item which has a specific date could be helpful... as Empty Sky would likely have been reissued itself regularly, with new barcodes, so this has a barcode from an item in print at the time of it's issue (?)

(If you see my logic)

Inclined to leave this as USA issue though, at least for time being, as even if it has Made In (W) Germany discs, the only market they would likely be for sale in bearing USA printed packaging would likely be USA?

(For sale elewhere would be printed in Europe or somewhere?)

Any idea of the date for this issue?

If it is an early CD (no barcode / disc is older etc. Then I'd be inclined to call it International.

I've moved GEMSFAN's images over to the US issue... they do not replicate entirely what is already there, as there is the addition of a small printed number (rear cover, lower right - (Label code?)).

It seems a case of this, original issue being available Internationally, until later pressing plants in US could make their own, so both would be found (available) in US, but only this one available in Europe (outside US, at least)

Have linked US issue below, so you can peruse, and perhaps consider :)

Madonna - The First Album
I've changed the country of this to Europe, and removed the date, until further info can be provided.

Undoubtedly an early CD issue, but if it was a 1983 release, it would probably have been a target CD on this label, or screen printed in some way (not silver stock), and likely no barcode (although this might be on the cusp of that innovation being applied.

...It would not, however, at that date, have been simply a UK only release, I think.

I welcome correction on any of these points though, if anyone knows better :)

Madonna - Remixed Prayers (1989)
It's this kind of thing that makes my heart sink....

...By any definition, it's a CD single, having only variations of the same two tracks. And indeed, we have plenty of CD singles that are directly equivalent in this way... but then you see the sneaky B"£%ards have printed: "Mini ALBUM" on the disc... so according to their own definitions, this was marketed as an album.

(So it's right in being in this world - using this measure, but I think we can all see the truth of the matter! - Sire / Warner.....Grrrrr :(

Genesis - Abacab (1994)
Review
Nobody's Favourite Genesis Album.

This has a curious place in the Genesis discography, being, at best, much maligned, at worst denounced, but mostly ignored, it seems...

...And let's face facts, it isn't the greatest album ever made, and would probably come somewhere pretty low in the ranking of Genesis albums.

That said, feeling the beginnings of another Genesis kick coming on, I decided to listen to this whilst doing a little gardening today, and for the most part it's actually got a lot more going for it than is often given credit for...

...The Title track is quite a compelling work out for the band, and with Man On The Corner, No Reply At All and Another Record being fairly strong Genesis tunes, it's mostly a good album anyway; Dodo and Keep It Dark do take a little getting into, and frankly there's just no excuse, even after all these years, for Whodunnit? Which is just S*%t.

On the whole this sounds, as an album, like a gathering of all those kinds of songs which would otherwise have had to have been hunted down by fans, from the B-sides of Genesis singles, and which any other band - even Genesis themselves - might ordinarily have placed there.

It is a little flat, in comparison to others of their albums, too tentatively experimental (scrapes, squiggles, and noodles that perhaps go on for too long etc.) and as the quintessentially eighties style cover (and it's variants) shows, a pretty dated attempt to be eighties hip (bright colours, Pseudo-Picasso garishness), which is reflected in the music a little.

But still has enough moments of typically Genesis style highlights to make it worth another listen.

Neil Young Crazy Horse - Barn (2021)
WE keep having corrections for this to change it back and forth between Neil Young AND Crazy Horse, and Neil Young Crazy Horse...

...The Latter is what's on the item: Disc and artwork, so executive decision here is that's how it will stay.

This iteration of the name is a pseudonym of neil young already (I'll check Neil Young And Crazy Horse discography), so it does / will appear in those discographies.

No more corrections for this please :)

Wham! - 12" Mixes (1988)
Well if CBS / Epic says it's an album, then it's an album! :D

Food for thought though....If this didn't have that catalogue number system to identify it as such, would you still call it an album?

(Also, is there a vinyl equivalent, and if so, is that called an album or a 12" single / EP... How is that catalogued?)

Indeed, it looked like a single / EP due to the track count and remix / version content, but the artwork design did look a little too album-ish, so wasn't sure.
