ppint. 13th Jan 2017		CD Album David Bowie - Pin-Ups (2015)	thanks again, philmh: 2009, eh - so yr hmbl srppnt.'s only seven-eight years behind on this :-) (& that's why stuff is coming out from bmg again - which i misinterpreted as "still" - and what happened to the sanctuary - castle - prt - precision - pye catalogue of recordings.)
ppint. 12th Jan 2017		CD Album Edgar Broughton Band - Original Album Series (2014)	ahaaa! a straw - well, five straws - in the wind; looks like the formerly harvest label lp back catalogue that's now owned by wci/warner music group, who didn't get ownership of the label (which remains with umg/universal music group), will be moved onto the parlophone label.
ppint. 12th Jan 2017		CD Album Udo Lindenberg - Original Album Series Vol. 2 (2012)	arggghh! just when you have their new looks, divisions and "labels" sorted, and know beyond peradventure there's no actual "warner music group" "label" - suddenly there is! - grrrrrrrr...° ° - transl: yr hmbl srppnt. hates musuckmegacorpses!

(only possible quibble being that wci/warner music group bought all the chunks of the former emi records group it then acquired from universal music group, rather than from its initial sale. the result's substantially the same, though "the beatles" recordings and the rights to those label names might well be with warners, had they got their "emichunks" in an initial sale-auction-of-the-separate-emi-operating-companies.) the vertical, outline-in-white font upon the orange ground of the bowie cd label does seem to yr hmbl srppnt. to've been chosen deliberately to echo the brightest and maybe most attractive of the rca label designs - without necessitating paying a licence fee to general electric, to use any of their copyrights! :-) didn't the rca records corpses go to bmg (bertelsmann music group) - with a limited-length licence to go on using the ge-owned rca names; and iiuc (which yr hmbl srppnt. well mayn't've), isn't bmg still owned by the bertelsmann group of germany (? but not perhaps a gmbh), working with sony music group rather than having been bought by that larger musucmegacorpse ?
ppint. 11th Jan 2017		CD Album David Bowie - Pin-Ups (2015)	sheepdip: yes, and some of the competing musucmegacorpses nevertheless co-operate in some of the pretty major, as well as the minor market territories, elsewhere in the world. warner music group/wci also picked up as part of the 2013 auctioning-off of umg's excessive control of the eu recorded music market, all of the emi group's current & back catalogue of classical recordings, including virgin classics; but seem to've decided to allot the virgin classics catalogue to the nonesuch label (originally elektra's classical & jazz label), whilst allocating all the various hmv group classics catalogue not to the angel label (originally a relatively minor classical hmv sub-label), which emi usa settled on instead of hmv (possibly because of the dawn-of-records handshake agreement between the gramophone company in london and either the radio corporation of america or the victor record company, to allow the american record company to use nipper listening to his master's voice coming out of the horn of a gramophone as its logo in north america (? or just the usa? or north and south america?)), but to warner classics. . . weird and wonderful are the ways of minor, as well as major music companies - but it'd take divine intervention, or major super powers, to work out what the musicmegacorpses are going to do next. it's like a hyperbillionaires' manicmysticmoney'n'power-broking non-stop game of monopoly.
ppint. 11th Jan 2017		CD Album David Bowie - Pin-Ups (2015)	sheepdip: fx: "little, seated bow": thank-you; a further bit that's particularly relevant here, is that "rca", "rca victor", "radio corporation of america" and prob'ly all formulations incorporating "rca" are trademarks of and copyright *not* by the record company in question, nor by bmg, but by ge, the general electric corporation - probably inc, if it's not already a nation-state in its own right - and sony-bmg or whoever wants to use them must pay ge an amount to be negotiated to their - ge's - satisfaction, and also pay anyone else who may happen to have obtained an exclusive licence to use these upon records, cds, etc, prior to their seeking to use 'em in the same territories. (given the, ah, "interesting" uses to which it's been put, of late, "camden" as a recorded music label name might well turn out to've been owned by the record company, rather than by ge.) (but maybe not.) - the situation regarding the trademark of "nipper listening to his master's voice (or just "nipper"), upon a gramophone (? - or upon any other proprietary system of the playback of audio recordings - ?)" was already quite convoluted before this latest session of musicbusinessmegacorpse rearrangements, and yr hmbl srppnt.'s no idea who - if anyone - 'll've ended up with the world- (? and/or solar system- ?)wide rights to this/these. they might even be in the process of reverting to the descendants of emile berliner!

ppint. 10th Jan 2017		CD Album Trees - On The Shore (1996)	that there "1993" date needs to be queried; andy's records' beat goes on records released the two trees albums on uk cds in 1993 - so it's rather unlikely that uk columbia/sony released it on cd in the same year. . .
ppint. 10th Jan 2017		CD Album Petula Clark - It Had To Be You: The Complete Early Singles (2007)	country of issue, or set of territories of issue if multiple recording rights collection agencies given on the disc and/or packaging inlay/inserts (e.g. "european", or "international" if more-widely and legitimately distributed and sold to retailers). which doesn't reflect the late 20th & early 21st centuries' xxxxian situation very well at all, with its variety of possible options, nor that in "southeast asia"; and the post-implosion carve-up of emi record group by umg (universal) & wci (warner) is already making for further, fresh mini-nightmares. . .

ppint. 10th Jan 2017		CD Album David Bowie - Pin-Ups (2015)	in the wake of the implosion of emi, its purchase by universal made conditional upon umg's disposing of a sufficiency of it (?and/or other yeurppean recorded music assets?) by the dreaded ee-yewww!, and wci/warner music group winning the auction & buying large chunks of the former emi records/music group assets including parlophone group (largely the renamed capitol records group without that name or the rights to the recordings of the beatles), and including the catalogue of the former emi harvest label from universal/umg (but not that name, neither), there's going to have to be some way of distinguishing who now owns which bit(s), and is now the entity releasing music on which bit, on lp as well has cd - which isn't always going to be the apparent label as judged by the retro artwork splashed over the packaging or the cd media. - should this be a 45worlds forum topic, do catt^Wworlders think?
ppint. 6th Jan 2017		CD Album Rhinoceros - Rhinoceros (2002)	the track, "apricot brandy", from this album was adopted by radio dj john peel as his theme tune - yr hmbl srppnt. doesn't recall for how long; but he was definitely a fan of rhinoceros's sound.
ppint. 6th Jan 2017		CD Album The Beatles - Revolver (1987)	likewise mystified - it doesn't even state that it was made or mfd by capitol, merely that it was distributed by capitol records-EMI of canadada. yr hmbl srppnt.'d understand were it cdcatted^W 45worlded as being an emi canadada release, and so flagged, or as a parlophone release by emi canadada - but to list it on 45worlds as a capitol release seems perverse. . .
ppint. 4th Jan 2017		CD Album k.d. lang And The Reclines - Absolute Torch And Twang (1989)	the matrix-equivalent no. of my sire manufactured in germany by teldec record service gmbh bought in cumbria, yuk-of-gb'n'norn-ironian copy is " 925877-2 RSA, cat no. 7599-25877-2 " - i dunno whether this helps or no. only visible date is (p) & © 1989, and rear insert/inlay copy gives info for merkin/na? distribution as well as for rest of the world. . .

ppint. 29th Dec 2016		CD Album Emil Gilels - The Complete EMI Recordings (2010)	emi's classic catalogue(s) are being absorbed into the warner classics', and virgin's into - iirc - warners' (elektra's) nonesuch's catalogues - or "catalogs", i s'pose, to be more accurate. in the interim, warner music'll be releasing pretty much everything they intend to keep "live" in their catalog as they took it, apparently on the old labels so far as art & large logos're concerned, but updated with whatever warner music group small print on the cds & the printed paper tray inlays/inserts they decide to be essential. whether they intend to keep the same approach(es) for classical recordings included in the sale for titles not currently in emi's & virgin's catalogues at the time of their purchase, in 2013, yr hmbl srppnt. knoweth not.
ppint. 27th Dec 2016		CD Album Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fritz Reiner - Mussorgsky (1985)	yr hmbl srppnt.'s no idea why the titles of some movements are given in all four languages, as per those of the works, some in only three or two, and some in just the one - and not always the same one - but the above is as given in the insert booklet and only detailed track-listing in the whole package.

ppint. 13th Dec 2016		CD Album Tony McManus - Ceol More (2002)	each set is numbered as one track on the rear insert/inlay (though not on the multi-folded printed-paper front insert), so the track count of 11 differs from the above; the two tracks named "the king of the pipers" are different donegal jigs, both associated with fiddle-player john doherty; the three breton ridées were learned from fest noz band, pennou skoulm°, on a tour of germany. ° - jacky & patrick molard, jean michel veillon, ronan le bars, christian lemâitre, soïg sibéril.

ppint. 10th Dec 2016		CD Album Spirit - The Collection (1991)	oh yes, i don't doubt they got paid a licence fee - if not necessarily a large one (and maybe no further, sales-related royalties); but spirit's first four albums've been highly-regarded for decades - very nearly non-stop, since they were released. but well done, whoeveritwas at castle, as spotted the possibilities in the particular piece of classic back catalogue inherited by sony, and left languishing in their vaults.
ppint. 10th Dec 2016		CD Album Simon And Garfunkel - Sounds Of Silence (2001)	thanks, phil; there's a bit more on the reverse of the disc, in a smaller font i cannot be sure of: possibly IFPI 1552 - that's about it. the rights collection non-stamp is printed too small for my eyes, even with specs, but looks like it might combine sacem in a square with biem outside, below the square.
ppint. 9th Dec 2016		CD Album Simon And Garfunkel - Sounds Of Silence (2001)	all "simon and garfunkel" artist credit lines should read "simon & garfunkel" as cbs records & columbia records always so styled the duo; already submitted as a group correction. i've flagged it uk, but it might be eu, or international-outside-of-north-america (& possibly outside of japan - & spain? - apparently; thanks to philmh for pointing out these exceptions to sony music entertainment inc.'s elsewise worldwide ownership of the "columbia" trademark/copyright for music): further advice/correction is welcome. record release information in the insert booklet is for merkin columbia label releases, and not for cbs records, or sony/columbia uk, eu or international: the original 1966 cbs label uk lp (s)bpg 62690 bore "homeward bound" as side 2, track 1 on the 12 track lp (it would have been track 07 on this cd, had it followed the uk lp, and everything else shuffled up one higher); tracks 12-15 were released in the eu/international boxed cd set, "the collection", columbia 886971346626, 26/11/07. matrix-equivalent no. 54950812000-0101 12 the (p) & © dates of 2001 are those printed on the rear insert/inlay and in the insert booklet, and seem impossible...
