This two minute re-edit of this film will give you a good idea of just how dreadful it is.

As the Blu-ray extras for this reveal I am not alone in finding this film hugely enjoyable whilst at the same time thinking it's kind of not very good!

In terms of plot, genre and mood it's all over the place. Is it Science Fiction? Oh no wait it's a vampire film, Whoops now it's a Zombie film etc. etc.

The acting is similarly erratic and main characters seem to vanish from the story for no apparent reason.

This all sounds very negative but as I said at the beginning - it's fun!

Add to the mix the incredibly beautiful Mathilda May creeping around stark naked and it's a great way to waste a couple hours.

You will learn NOTHING but if you like horror, science fiction, vampires or B-movies then I'm sure you'll be glad you gave it a go.

Deux Jours, Une Nuit (Two Days, One Night) (2014) (2014)
Rated 7/10
A very simple premise but a most affecting film.

Set during an economic recession, a small company of 16 employees are given a vote to decide whether to keep their 'bonus' and not allow Sandra (Marion Cotillard) to return from sick leave to her old job or sacrifice their bonus to let her keep her job.

Politics in a microcosm and with very direct results. Sandra visits her fellow employees one by one in an effort to save her job. The meetings are shot in real time and are in turns, moving, painful, uplifiting and awkward.

It's a very low-key film but beautiful in it's own way. Recommended.

An entertaining documentary looking at the gangs of 70s New York, mainly set around the South Bronx which at that time 'looked like post WW2 Dresden'. It's hard to imagine that this vision of a ruined and bankrupt New York is the same city as the post-Giuliani economically booming Metropolis we have today.

The documentary was inspired by a 1977 article for Esquire magazine - 'Savage Skulls' by Jon Bradshaw which surely also inspired the cult classic The Warriors.

I've only given this 7/10 as although I really enjoyed it, I really wish it had been a bit longer (67minutes) and gone into things a bit deeper but perhaps I'm nitpicking. Overall it's a fascinating time capsule.

While We're Young (2014) (2014)
Rated 9/10
In cinemas in the UK now and highly recommended for anyone in their 40s or 20s.

The soundtrack is by James Murphy and if his LCD Soundsystem track 'Losing My Edge' ever made you chuckle then this film will probably have much the same effect.

What do you do when you start to think that your best years are probably behind you and you realise that someone in their mid twenties has the energy, bravery and verve to do more in one afternoon than you've achieved in a year?

It's painful to watch at times but very funny too.

It's been said before about Noah Baumbach but if you long for Woody Allen films when they used to be great then he's probably as close as you'll get this side of a time machine.

La Polizia Chiede Aiuto (What Have They Done To Your Daughters?) (1974) (1974)
Rated 6/10
This was almost really good. The killer looks great, head to toe in biker gear (including helmet) and brandishing a butcher's cleaver. There are some great sets and the overall look is of a classic Euro crime/horror flick.

It's let down however by a pretty threadbare plot that goes nowhere just as it threatens to get interesting (Senior politicians and other dignitaries involved in a secret teenage prostitution ring)

Overall one that I'm happy to have watched once but am unlikely to watch again.

Riti, Magie Nere E Segrete Orge Nel Trecento (The Reincarnation of Isabel) (1973) (1973)
Review
This film is a delicious mess of 70s Euro erotic horror cliches with Satanism, Vampirism Sadism and Lesbianism in abundance.

It doesn't make a massive ammount of sense and the pacing is pedestrian but the decent psychedelic cinematography and high flesh/blood count make it very slightly above average genre fodder IMHO.

The last five minutes are especially trippy veering from dark demonic images to a comical ending involving a ballerina!?

I'm still not quite sure what it was all about but as they say in the script It's a thin line between the known and the unknown.

6/10

Cool It Carol! (1970) (1970)
Rated 7/10
This is surprisingly racy for 1970. i got a bit of a shock when they said 'The F-word' and started skinning up joints. It must have been positively shocking at the time of release (In the UK at least)

Strange to see Robin Askwith playing his usual cheeky chappie in a much darker tone. He's basically a pimp!
