Wes Craven's most underrated movie? Personally I think it's excellent (and I've watched it many, many times) and deserves higher praise. Each to their own I guess but I love this film.

Few movies have ever managed to make me jump - this one did, which is high praise indeed!! Superlative British horror with some genuinely unnerving moments. Recommended.

Saw this years ago and seem to remember it being really rather good. It was a looooong time ago, though!

I don't know whether it's a coincidence, but the title screen (shown above) appears in the trailer at the 2:12 mark...

I think the idea is to enter the directors separately?

Cannibal Ferox (1981) (1981)
I watched this in the early 90s when it was still banned (I think the uncut version still is?), and I was on a mission to try and watch every film on the BBFC banned list (the so-called "video nasties"). I still haven't managed it, mainly because most of them are pretty awful - this one being no exception. It's certainly nasty - in the unpleasant sense of the word - but it's also, well...crap, to be honest.

Despite a long passion for horror movies I've somehow never actually seen this!

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (1998) (1998)
As much as I loved the book, the film just didn't work for me. It had its moments but is it possibly "unfilmable"... I think it may be? Or maybe it's just me!

Ghosts ...Of The Civil Dead (1988) (1988)
Extremely violent, and frequently very disturbing, Ghosts... is probably not to everyone's tastes to say the least. Nick Cave's maniacal portrayal of psychopath Maynard is absolutely terrifying, though despite his lead billing (for obvious reasons) he doesn't actually appear until the second half of the movie.

A challenging and experimental film, it isn't easy to get hold of in the UK (though I bought my DVD copy from Australia via the net, for a reasonable price) but it's worth the effort for those with a liking for extreme cinema. Just make sure the kids are in bed before you put it on.

Cave co-wrote the screenplay and also the excellent soundtrack.

The Slipper And The Rose (1976) (1976)
Couldn't find a screengrab of the titles anywhere, and the DVD didn't want to play in the computer drive, so here's a screenshot of Richard Chamberlain in full Prince garb instead, temporarily at least.

Yeah, there are some fabulous parodies.

Only seen the actual movie once - probably about time it got another viewing at some point. Powerful stuff.

Låt Den Rätte Komma In (Let The Right One In) (2008) (2008)
A great film - and as you say (I think), it's essentially a love story disguised as a horror movie. I enjoyed it immensely.

Nil By Mouth (1997) (1997)
Simply the best movie I've ever seen. Not for enjoyment purposes - fun it isn't - but it's just an outstanding piece of work in every way. Art, you might say.

Uncomfortable viewing in places (one violent scene in particular is extremely tough to watch), this is a movie which is bleak and dark from start to finish. It's what some people would call "depressing", but for me it's a masterpiece, and the performances by Kathy Burke and Ray Winstone in particular are absolutely world class. It's a shame Burke hasn't done more serious acting because on this evidence, she is supremely gifted (she won Best Actress at Cannes for this role).

Don't watch this if you are offended by swearing (the film would be about 10 minutes long if you took out all the words beginning with F or C) or are looking for a good laugh (though having said that, there are some fabulous moments of black comedy in this film - look out for Mark's story about his heart attack for one...). But if you like to be challenged by a movie and be made to think, watch it.
