Yes, that's why I renamed the 2011 version of Arthur, and created a corresponding cinema entry. so there'd be something to link to.
Which is why I would encourage finding, or adding, the appropriate film or TV series when adding a new dvd. I always try to.
If you see wrong linkage, please submit a correction.

Here's a 2010 remastered version with added music:
"Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80" by Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam.

That's true Graham, but that very film showed up here the other day as the "Brand" DVD and listed the "Moore" cast list which is why the Brand one now has the date in the title.

The Winslow Boy has been done a couple of times, also Inherit The Wind, 12 Angry Men, Conan The Barbarian, 39 Steps.

Wikipedia has a list of some of the films made with this title. Scrooge is also a popular movie title, Dickens' story has been made countless times for TV.
This is probably a special case, most film titles are unique.
Where there is a potential for confusion, the best known version should be entered without extra identifier, other films with a date disambiguation in [square brackets].

As an example, if I asked who played Arthur in the film of the same name (tt0082031), not many would say Russell Brand (tt1334512) I'd wager.

Maybe it would be better to find a way to use the IMDb ID field for DVD linking rather than the title field? That way, the title field can render the title(s) proper.

I've seen this a few times now, one film mistakenly being associated with another with the same title.
Maybe a guideline would be to include the year with the title as standard if that's possible. Can the database handle an automatic thing like that?

I've renamed this short film, with [1910] appended to the title.
So it's no longer linked to the 1984 George C. Scott version DVD.

The DVD linked here is definitely not the same "A Christmas Carol" as this 1910 silent short.
