YankeeDisc SUBS 14th Apr 2016		The man that directed "The Searchers" tt0049730 made this film in London, what the......!! A sober crime story, nevertheless it's a hoot from beginning to end, with as usual "Pappy" Ford fleshing out nearly all of the cast's characters so that you felt you knew them, which is what he always did, that's why he won 4 (or 6, some say) Academy Awards "Oscars". Michael Trubshawe, tall military type with a handlebar moustache steals every scene he is in, as a Metropolitan Police Sergeant at Scotland Yard, and my favourite Anna Massey is a spoilt cocky daughter of the gruff Chief inspector Gideon. It shows regularly on freeview in UK, so miss it at your peril. Note: Historical reference is given during the film to the death sentence by hanging, by one or more of the actors, as at that time 1958, hanging was still at the zenith of English law, and was feared to the extent that criminals would murder witnesses rather than be caught.
