|
Magic Marmalade 20th May 2015 | | DVD12 Angry Men - MGM (2001) | This film ought to be on the Curriculum of every single school in the world.
No teenager ought to reach school leaving age without having seen it!
(I wanted to tag it as educational)

Magic Marmalade 20th May 2015 | | DVDBrazil - 20th Century Fox (2003) | "Has anybody seen Sam Lowry?!!!"

Magic Marmalade 20th May 2015 | | DVDTime Bandits - Anchor Bay Entertainment (2002) | Aha!!!
... I'm beginning to spot a pattern here!
As with Sleuth, updated edition of this available (almost identical to this in the case of Time Bandits), Gold Tinted underside, Sought after edition.
... apparently region-free.
In the case of this, I thought it was the Limited Edition Time Map that made people prefer it, but now, maybe it's worth hunting out early Anchor Bay Movies if this is the case (Would need someone with a non region 2 DVD player, who has a copy of this (or other such Anchor Bay titles) to confirm the suspicion.
|
Magic Marmalade 20th May 2015 | | DVDSleuth - Anchor Bay Entertainment (2002) | One of my all time faves, and one of the first DVDs I bought.
... Having periodically checked on ebay and amazon over the last year or so, I've discovered that this is a particularly sought after edition of the film, but couldn't understand why, when there is another edition available cheaper...
But having looked at it more closely for the purposes of entering it here, I think I've worked out why:
No Region Code to be found.
Is it region-less?
(Distinguishing feature of the disc is the gold tint to the underside playing surface)

Magic Marmalade 19th May 2015 | | VHSThe Keep - Paramount (2000) | British-West German Production with Jane Asher!
...Not the most obvious chain of logic there is there?
But looks interesting, I'll have to look out for that.

Magic Marmalade 18th May 2015 | | VHSThe Keep - Paramount (2000) | Thanks everyone!
I'll try and keep a few of those in mind H (Means I'll be spending even more time in each charity shop I go in now- once I've waded through all the 78s, Vinyl albums and singles, CDs, tapes and books, I'll get on to the VHS!)
Graham - I went by the copyright on the cover for the package design, which suggests that the publishers can just continue issuing the same tape in different packaging, and one of the others I've entered has the same thing (Can't remember which), but perhaps there ought to be the option to add additional Cat No.s in "Add Missing Info" as we do with vinyl/CD worlds... So that the same entry for a tape can have multiple package variants like cover variations on vinyl, rather than have multiple entries based on the package cat, but which contain the same tape?
nb- I read the book too, and this was fairly faithful to it I thought (Has Ian Mckellen always been the same age?!!!)

Magic Marmalade 18th May 2015 | | VHSPascali's Island - Virgin (1992) | Thanks Graham.
Very odd that it wasn't released here in UK at cinemas. I always wonder what's going on when such quality peice of work is so neglected like this.... like why did the dearly loved The Keep take so long to come to DVD, or why have the Rlling Stones Mono recordings not come to CD, or this not see the light of day for so long.
Got to be contracts, and rights issues behind it all hasn't it?
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | VHSThe Keep - Paramount (2000) | What list is that henry?
I know it was incredibly difficult to get hold of!
I first saw it one balmy Summer evening on the BBC's Moviedrome thing. I was totally hypnotised by it (Tangerine Dream Soundtrack too), and the next day I was able, promptly marched off to the shop to buy a copy, but of course, they didn't have any, and had to eventually track it through this brilliant outfit that used to find rare movies on video called The Film Vault (.Co.uk) (Not sure if they are still around in any form) but top class service, got pretty much all of the VHS I've uploaded here from them.
Only recently on DVD I think... and Film 4 (Channel 4) have lately started showing it from what is evidently a DVD/Blu-ray source.
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | VHSThe Quiet Earth - CBS / Fox (1986) | First time I've had the cover out of the case.... the barcode is printed separately onto the cover, and feels raised... and so has come away from the glossy cover in places (before I bought it those many moons ago!)
|
Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | VHSPascali's Island - Virgin (1992) | This is a Very rare video, for the reasons mentioned in notes...
...Very strange that it hasn't had any DVD or BLU-RAY release, or even more VHS re-issues, as it must rank among the very best work that each of Ben Kingsley, Charles Dance, And Helen Mirren have ever done!
The story is truly Shakespearean, with a tragic love triangle played out between a Frustrated Pascali (Ben Kingsley) who is in love with Helen Mirren's ethereal Artist character, and acts as a kind of Mr Fix it and guide for her and other colonists, until his world is rocked by the arrival of the dashing Charles Dance character, who urges Kingsley to help him with his archaeological excavations on the island, while Mirren's character falls in love with Dance.
Pascali is squashed between his love for Mirren, his desire to help Dance (while his jealousy grows) and the pressure of the crumbling Ottoman Authorities bearing on him to act on their behalf.
More than a whiff of Othello about this, and is absolutely brilliant in my view.
Why no DVD?

Magic Marmalade 17th May 2015 | | VHSThe Keep - Paramount (2000) | Only just noticed the different cat# and publisher on the label.
Thoughts?
|
Magic Marmalade 13th May 2015 | | DVDScreamers - Scorpion Releasing (2014) | Thought this was going to be the Peter Weller Sci-Fi thing from a Phillip K. Dick Novel, of the same name.
But looks good anyway!
|
Magic Marmalade 8th May 2015 | | DVDLeon - Touchstone | Making a real pig's ear of this so far aren't I?!!!!!
Another point I suppose unique to DVD & Blu-Ray... they have multiple subtitle and language capabilities which allows multiple country release in a way that VHS cannot.
I should have uploaded a disc scan too, as the odd subtitle of: "EL Professional", Not: "THE Professional". or even: "LE Professional" only confuses the matter further (I do wonder if my disc actually goes with/came with the cover (got this second hand)).
|
Magic Marmalade 8th May 2015 | | DVDLeon - Touchstone | Agree.
Never really looked that closely at DVD packaging before (at least, not the way I've come to learn to examine music media), and in some cases, you're lucky to be given any date whatsoever, so very difficult to get a fix on it, and while movie production dates can generally be found online, DVD, and other format release dates don't seem to be easy to find.
As a matter of course from now on, I'll leave the date blank unless, as in the case of my Highlander DVD, it gives both the Movie copyright date AND the issue date.
Guidance on dates is needed in forums I think.
