Live Music
The Shrubs @ The Bull and Gate (1987)
The venue was The Bull & Gate in Kentish Town, the club-night was called Timebox.

On the listing The Wonderstuff are 3rd on the bill, ahead of Moonstruck Two (4th) and Yellow Pigs From Heaven (5th).

The Sugarcubes @ Town And Country Club (1987)
This could be The Sugarcubes first headlining gig in London, they had been reviewed previously for gigs where they had been support but the excitement they generated meant that they would not be support for much longer.
Talking of which, the support band is given as Felt on the advert but in the listings Felt are put as headlining. Giving that Felt blew out a similar sized gig the previous year when they learnt that they were support to Edwin Collins I would not be surprised if inflated egos created similar tensions for this show. Anyway the majority of people would have went to see The Sugarcubes, they were new, fresh and exciting, whereas Felt were (.....you know what they were).

Primal Scream @ Harp Club, New Cross (1986)
I know the advert states "Harp Club", but I think its probably what we really know as The Venue since there is nothing else in Clifton Rise.

The Soup Dragons @ ULU (1987)
MBV had a few gigs listed with The Soup Dragons around this time, some kind of student union bars tour. They also seem to pop up regularly all over the small venues around London late 1986 & 1987, mostly as a support act, I will try to add a few details.

EDIT:
actually, no I won't add the other N.U.S. gigs after seeing ads blatantly stipulating "N.U.S. members and guests only" - bloody students.

Ozric Tentacles @ Brabant Road Club (1986)
Found this advert & listing in Sounds and it certainly is an early Club Dog event. I have to say this looks suspiciously like it could have been a gig in somebodies house, or some non-licenced building. I looked up the address on google maps and it shows a backroad but also with extensive redevelopment so I don't know, however there is an old boarded up workshop and the back area for The Jolly Anglers pub.

EDIT:
I found another listing for Brabant Road, this time stating "T&U Community Centre" instead of "2A" but it was for a boring event so I'm not adding it.

Bliss @ The Bull and Gate (1986)
I only added this entry after the listing caught my eye and I liked the band names; very evocative of the beginnings of twee/C86.

Sci-Fi Sex Stars @ Camden Palace (1986)
This advert appeared in Sounds 19 July 1986, but also it was reported (in the following week's press) that Tony James held a press conference 15 July 1986 to announce that Sigue Sigue Sputnik were cancelling most of their upcoming tour, ....but would be playing some 'secret gigs' later on.

Half Man Half Biscuit @ The Bull and Gate (1986)
Looking through old music papers I find the shifting live music scene in London quite interesting as venues change their music policies or even stop putting on live music altogether. Prior to this date you would be hard pushed to see a triple billing of indie bands at the venue, in fact you would probably more likely to have seen the kind of 'never signed' relic acts plodding on and passing round the hat for beer money.

Sadly I saw last week that The Bull & Gate has finally reopened as a terrible snobbish/up market kind of bar/coffee place, obviously no bands, but I suppose the location cannot compete against the now trendy Shoreditch/Old Street area.

Phil Collins @ Royal Albert Hall (1985)
Added an advert from the NME April 1985. Looks like tour merchandise, so you don't miss out, a full set would cost you around £110, knock yourself out!

The Pretty Things @ Sir George Robey (1985)
Sad to see that The Sir George Robey has now been completely demolished after nearly two decades standing as a building shell.

Live Music
Baby Bird @ The Astoria (1996)
The ticket has the date 18th May 1996 crossed out and new rubber-stamped date 24 Apr 1996, so the gig was brought forward by a few weeks and may explain the shift in line up (Echobelly and The Mystics added).
I think Echobelly was just Sonya & Debbie, Drugstore maybe just Isobel & Daron, most sets were short and basic, No Way Sis was full band and on a while.

H2SO4 @ The Water Rats (2000)
H2SO4 had one of the better tracks on those Band Register CDs that were sent out as promo compilations.

PH Family @ Dingwalls (1998)
Club Mullet from Glasgow.

Live Music
Grandaddy @ Shepherd's Bush Empire (2000)
My ticket has the date 31st October 2000 crossed out and the new date 30 Nov 2000 rubber-stamped on.
I missed Elbow due to an annoying 50min tube standstill at Edgware Road.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci @ The Scala (1999)
Looks like Gorky's had a curse for changed dates, the original ticket on this gig states 17 November 1999 but I know it got changed to 23 November as that's what I've written on the back and I have a press cutting advertising the new date with "original tickets still valid".

Six By Seven @ The Scala (2001)
Parva became The Kaiser Chiefs a little while later.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci @ Union Chapel (2000)
Original date was 26 May 2000.

Guided By Voices @ Astoria 2 (1999)
Yes date certainly was changed, looking at my original ticket & cuttings now. Original date 20/10/99 at the bigger Astoria, new date at the LA2, new advert cuttings state that "original tickets remain valid".
Of my cuttings there is gossip that states the singer (Robert) brings a crate of beer and a bucket on stage and drinks all the bottles during the gig, you can guess why he, erm, needed the bucket as the band did something like a 2 hour show.

The Gossip @ The Spitz (2003)
Can hardly read the flyer but it looks like The Gossip did a 10 date UK tour. The support bands are listed on the flyer, and there was a bunch of them, the official Spitz material lists the A-Lines as support though I'm pretty sure they did not play despite band members milling around the [very butch] audience.

Live Music
Peter Green And The Splinter Group @ The Borderline (2000)
Some Oasis boys were rumoured to be lurking around at the back of the room.

Interstellar Overcoat @ 229 (2017)
Interstellar Overdrive (Pink Floyd tribute band) played Piper At The Gates Of Dawn + Arnold Layne + Candy and a Currant Bun + See Emily Play + Apples & Oranges + Vegetable Man + Scream Thy Last Scream, and were pretty good.

albert

Orange Deluxe @ The Camden Falcon (1997)
Also listed were The Shift, though I cannot remember if they played.

Feline @ The Camden Falcon (1997)
Polar Bear were originally advertised but were replaced by Boom Boom Mancini, I don't know if they were the Polar Bear who later changed their name to Snow Patrol.

Live Music
The Knack [UK] @ Middle Earth (1967)
The Third Year is probably The Third Ear Band but I'm just following what it says on the flyer.
Also Piccadilly Line are on vinyl as The Picadilly Line or just Picadilly Line.
....stoned hippies just can't get it together.‎

My Bloody Valentine @ ULU (1989)
My flatmate at the time hung out with Wolfhounds, he didn't tell me about this gig though !

These Immortal Souls @ Camden Underworld (1993)
Added advert from the inky press, note the incorrect band name, guessing that was Underworld's mistake.

The Chemistry Set @ The White Horse (1989)
Sadly the great White Horse is now a rubbish gastro pub.

Live Music
Grandaddy @ The Monarch (1998)
I remember walking into the Monarch and seeing an old flyer and thinking 'aghh missed it', Grandaddy had been getting radio plays so I was aware of them, though it turns out that they had been gigging around London and I'd managed to miss all the small gigs.
By the way The Monarch in those days was the pub venue which later became The Barfly, and erm, now The Barfly goes by the name The Camden Assembly. There is another venue a few doors away that cheekily changed its name to The Monarch some years after the original Monarch when it was under The Barfly moniker.

Jonathan Fire*Eater @ The Camden Falcon (1991)
Check the date please, I thought Jonathan Fire*Eater formed 1993 in America.

Live Music
Jonathan Fire*Eater @ Union Chapel (1997)
Dates for this tour were rescheduled for some reason (see adverts). I could not add details for 2 venues as they are not yet added to the database, "Oxford - The Point" & "Derby Loft"
