Auto_Da_Fe 24th Nov 2015 | | Live MusicThe Near Jazz Experience @ Indo (2015) | Marc Hayward is singer/guitarist from The Dash
Auto_Da_Fe 22nd Nov 2015 | | Live MusicOkkervil River @ Cargo (2006) | [YouTube Video]
Auto_Da_Fe 17th Oct 2015 | | Live MusicEmile Ford And The Checkmates @ Tower Ballroom (1962) | Definitely change. In this world the identity is what is important - not the vagaries of typesetters!
Auto_Da_Fe 7th Oct 2015 | | Live MusicBlow Up @ The New Adelphi (1989) | 2 singles on Creation, not sure the rating was ever much more than middling.
Auto_Da_Fe 2nd Oct 2015 | | Live MusicThe Doomed @ The Greyhound, Croydon (1978) | Yes, they split up in spring 78, then reformed by September. Played as The Doomed for the rest of the year, then reverted to being The Damned.
Auto_Da_Fe 29th Sep 2015 | | Live MusicThe Cramps @ Hammersmith Odeon (1986) | here is a poster for Odeon.
Auto_Da_Fe 13th Jul 2015 | | Live MusicRamones @ The Roundhouse (1977) | Added a poster - photographed on the wall of the Rough Trade shop in Talbot Road last week
Auto_Da_Fe 25th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicThe Higsons @ The Royalty, Southgate (1981) | But apparently not - I found a clipping
Auto_Da_Fe 14th May 2015 | | Live MusicThe Parade @ Nambucca (2015) | "Cancelled due to events beyond our control" say the venue.
Auto_Da_Fe 13th May 2015 | | Live MusicKnell @ Stags Head (2015) | Found the details - so: Here (apparently they do consider themselves punk)
Auto_Da_Fe 13th May 2015 | | Live MusicKnell @ Stags Head (2015) | Back tonight after football, and more metal happening (possibly punk in the eyes of the protagonists). A lively crowd watching a 4 piece band featuring a heavily tattooed naked bald vocalist. Can't seem to find a clue as to the name of the band - but the number of cameras out suggest it'll all be revealed on Youtube.
Auto_Da_Fe 6th May 2015 | | Live MusicKnell @ Stags Head (2015) | Just came here for a pint after playing football, with no idea that there would be a gig in the room at the side. But there it was - Chilean death metal, and as death metal goes - as good as any other I've seen. Four people on stage, ten in the audience, one at the desk. No idea how the economics work out, but I did enjoy dipping in for 3 songs. Wasn't carrying a camera, so blurry phone images are all I can add.
Auto_Da_Fe 25th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicThe Clash @ Forest National (1981) | Vic says neither Belle Stars nor Subway Sect played this gig, despite poster.
Auto_Da_Fe 24th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicDarren Hayman @ St. Pancras Old Church (2015) | Marvelous stuff. Four of the Hefner "Hymns" then the entire Chants for Socialists.
Auto_Da_Fe 14th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicThe Curtains @ Bacchus (1994) | I've played a couple of those!
As an audience member, This gig had 3 attendees - a snogging couple who payed no attention to the band, and me. Also attended a Zodiac Mindwarp gig (which I haven't found a date for) at which I was the only paying punter - but there was a support - Baby Go Boom - and both bands watched each other, so it didn't look quite so bad.
Auto_Da_Fe 10th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicBlonde Redhead @ Store Vega (2010) | Perfect - now it's fixed.
Thank you!
Auto_Da_Fe 10th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicBlonde Redhead @ Store Vega (2010) | Yes - it's not so intuitive.. but starting to create a new entry is the way to go. Start to enter a gig; then enter a new venue.
When the new venue exists, I can move the gig.
Auto_Da_Fe 10th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicBlonde Redhead @ Store Vega (2010) | Could you enter the details for Stor Vega BT? The event should live where it happened, not (if it's different) where the ticket says.
Auto_Da_Fe 10th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicBlack Yaya @ The Lexington (2015) | The entertainment started with Malka, an engaging personality, good musicianship, OK songs - and a peculiarly early 80s new wave funk sound. Imagine Noosha Fox fronting King Trigger.
Lail Arad, next up, was much better than last time I saw her - alarmingly, already more than 4 years ago. Then, she was pretty nondescript. Now she's a phenomenon. Good, strong voice. Interesting wordy songs. Although probably the best is a cover, she sets the bar high with Paul Simon's "I Know What I Know". Overall, she reminds me a lot of Dory Previn. Which is a good thing.
Herman Düne, at their best, made some of my favorite records and played some of my favorite gigs ever. But at the end, after the brother separation, they slipped into insipidity. Both parties seemed to flounder a bit but, although it has taken a few years, things are sounding good again. David, reinvented as Black Yaya, has regained some of the dark side which was missing from the late HD. The songs are the best he's released for ten years. The performance (abetted by an excellent bass/pedal steel player) is compelling.
A very enjoyable evening.

Auto_Da_Fe 7th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicStanley Brinks @ Servant Jazz Quarters (2015) | First of all, a set of Freschard's charming naive lo-fi pop - which I enjoy more every time I see it. Jonny Helm (of Wave Pictures fame) joins for the second half on cabassa and backing vocals.
Next up, Stanley - solo throughout tonight - plays three songs about robots, and all the rest about drink...
Auto_Da_Fe 6th Apr 2015 | | Live MusicCooler @ The Aquarium, Old Street (1998) | The venue is still there (I've added details). Went to something there once, can't remember what - but not Cooler I think.
Auto_Da_Fe 2nd Apr 2015 | | Live MusicRalegh Long @ Servant Jazz Quarters (2015) | Helene has a lovely voice, quite deep (Tracy Thorn, but richer - not Nico) and some good songs. Band includes Darren Hayman, Jack Hayter, Pam Berry and more. Jack Hayter also plays with Ralegh, who is a talented singer-songwriter - and will be playing venues much larger than this before long. Second band including a french horn I've seen this year - which can only be a good thing.
Auto_Da_Fe 2nd Apr 2015 | | Live MusicSimon Stanley Ward @ The Railway Tavern (2015) | Stopped into this on the off chance, on the way home from another gig. Rather fine, somewhat apocalyptic country rock - good enough that I bought the CD.
Auto_Da_Fe 29th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicJimmy Norton's Explosion @ Music Machine (1979) | Glen Matlock and Steve New, post Rich Kids. With Budgie and Danny Kustow. Quickly renamed The Spectres.
Auto_Da_Fe 27th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicFoetal Connectionne @ Mean Fiddler [Harlesden] (1994) | Yes, in his discography 1983 falls between You've Got Foetus on Your Breath and Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel. Lots of other names, but all Foetus rather than Foetal. However looking through adverts and images for this site, I've seen that lots of mis-spelled / mis-typed names made it to print.
I agree though - it's more likely that this wasn't him
Auto_Da_Fe 26th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicFoetal Connectionne @ Mean Fiddler [Harlesden] (1994) | Jim Thirlwell?
Auto_Da_Fe 25th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicUltravox @ The Roundhouse (1977) | Posters have XTC billed third, but they didn't play. I'm only 90% sure that it was the Radiators from Space that did.
Auto_Da_Fe 25th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicMen Diamler @ The New Adelphi (2014) | I seem to remember him saying at this gig that it would be his last ever London performance
Auto_Da_Fe 18th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicDavid Thomas @ NFT 2 (1998) | Jane Bom-Bane's was the only performance of music. Bob Holman read poetry, and David Thomas gave a lecture (very) loosely on the subject of the overarching importance of The Beach Boys
Auto_Da_Fe 17th Mar 2015 | | Live MusicRamones @ The Roundhouse (1977) | Probably the best gig I've ever seen
