It was in '94 not '83! I played bass guitar in this band in the early nineties. Billy Two is bang-on about the tickets - it was the norm at that time and I remember handing them out to all and sundry for our gigs at other venues too. Like every band on earth, we thought we were the bees knees (I still do!). We failed to conquer the world by Friday but had a blast playing the London circuit of smoky, beery sh*tholes, most of which are probably demolished or tarted up beyond recognition now. Some I recall were the Sir George Robey in Finsbury Park, the Swan in Tottenham, the Rock Garden in Covent Garden, Water Rats in King's Cross, the Garage in Islington and one in Stoke Newington whose name escapes me (venue entrance was on Church Street and the adjoining pub entrance was on the High Street). We got to record a single that was played on the then-brilliant xfm. The band's name is spelled correctly by the way. I hated it but it was coined by the guy who was the songwriter/lead vox/lead guitar/financier and his songs were bloody brilliant so I reckoned I should live with it. So... your ticket is worth f*ck-all to a collector but seeing it here has made my day - cheers!
Those Mean Fiddler tickets would be sent out to bands, who would then be required to get a certain amount of people to hand them in on the door to have a chance of earning any money from the gig. As a result, bands would copy them by the dozen/hundred/thousand and scattershot them across London in the hope that stray punters would take a risk, or just use the concession price to get in cheap. This was generally a classic counterproductive tactic, as 99% of the time far more money would be spent on copying and distributing the tickets than would actually be recouped up by anyone actually turning up with one !
Yes, in his discography 1983 falls between You've Got Foetus on Your Breath and Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel. Lots of other names, but all Foetus rather than Foetal. However looking through adverts and images for this site, I've seen that lots of mis-spelled / mis-typed names made it to print.
I agree though - it's more likely that this wasn't him
