djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicQueen @ Earls Court (1977) | This concert could not have planned any better if we had tried... seeing Queen on the actual Bank Holiday Monday celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
As you can imagine, Freddie made the most of the occasion as well.
We managed to sneak a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne into the venue without being searched and we managed to raise a glass to toast both Queens!
What a fantastic memory!

djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicQueen @ Hyde Park (1976) | One of the hottest and most humid days of the long, hot summer of 1976.
This was an amazing open-air event with Queen riding high on the success of "A Night At The Opera" and it almost gave you a taste of what Woodstock was like but on a much smaller scale with only 150,000 people attending.
I remember vividly cans and bottle being thrown at the people at the front of the crowd because those at the back could not see the stage.
Kiki Dee sang "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" which was the record of Summer '76 but Elton John did not appear. Instead, she duetted with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Elton instead
The compere for this event was the Old Grey Whistle Test's very own "Whispering" Bob Harris.

djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicEmerson, Lake And Palmer @ Empire Pool, Wembley (1974) | I have been to many gigs and this ranks as one of the all-time best concerts which I have seen.
Keith Emerson's theatrics and the pyrotechnics/lighting were spectacular.
The PA was way above anything I had heard in concert before as it was Quadrophonic Sound.
The climax of the concert was Karn Evil 9 reverberating from each corner of the Empire Pool and circling from speaker to speaker above your head. Truly amazing even to this day!

djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicJames Taylor @ Crystal Palace Bowl (1973) | I went to the concert and if I remember correctly, it rained heavily in the evening. I got an autograph from Steve Hunter who was one of Lou Reed's backing band.
Although I was not there for the early part of the afternoon, there is also another artist listed from 11:50 - 12:15 by the name of Blue, the rock group not the boy band! So, I cannot confirm if they actually appeared on the day.

|
djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicWings @ Empire Pool, Wembley (1976) | This was the first time that I had been to a concert where lasers were used as part of the stage lighting. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a very basic laser beam which spelled out a message above the stage as if someone was writing it by hand.
Remember, this was 1976 and lasers were still in their infancy. We thought, wow! this is amazing which it was for that time.

djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicQueen @ Rainbow Theatre (1974) | Uploaded concert poster but note the spelling mistake.
The support band was called NUTZ not Nuts.
I bought their album the following day on the strength of this performance. They should have been a lot bigger but did not achieve any notable success. Great double bill concert.
My brother and I were in the front rows of the hall and he caught Freddie's tambourine when it was thrown into the audience. I still have it!

djdan2010 4th Sep 2024 | | Live MusicMott The Hoople @ Hammersmith Odeon (1973) | Like rustieneil, I was at this memorable concert but at the second show in the evening. I remember distinctly that it was very cold that night and we were outside the venue banging on the doors to get in.
The concert started late but it was a very memorable event.
As soon as Freddie took to the stage with the spotlight illuminating him, you knew that you were in the presence of someone who could command the audience. Mott were very good but I felt that Queen stole the show that night.
The concert was running late and consequently overran. The management at Hammersmith decided to bring the stage curtain down on Mott while they were still performing presumably because of a time curfew. It ended with Verden Allen shoving his piano under the stage curtain to continue on stage. What a memorable night!
