TheDroid 12th Aug 2015 | | Live MusicToto @ Slim's (1993) | This was a helluva show and a very fun performance to attend. Boz Scaggs even served me a beer, which was pretty cool...
TheDroid 21st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicThe Moody Blues @ Circle Star Theater (1992) | John Lodge was particularly animated at this show "in the round". He also had a penchant for flirting with my girlfriend each time they passed by (yes, the stage rotated!). Moodies put on a super show that night.
TheDroid 21st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicThe Guess Who @ The Catalyst (1990) | Often referred to by Guess Who fans as "The Clones", Jim Kale and Garry Peterson, the rhythm section of the band, were the only members from the bands heyday. Still they put on an enjoyable performance. I had the opportunity to enjoy a beer with Jim Kale before the show. Although he was not a very talkative person, he was still pleasant.
TheDroid 20th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicJimmy Buffett And The Coral Reefer Band @ Open Air Theatre (1990) | Greatest conga line I have ever participated in (or witnessed)! Must of had close to one half the audience encircling the amphitheater.
TheDroid 20th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicGreg Kihn Band @ The Miramar Beach Restaurant (1990) | Great restaurant that featured some really good concert shows in the late 80's to late 90's. I lived a beautiful ten minute walk from here for many years.
TheDroid 20th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicBlue Öyster Cult @ Cabaret (1989) | Venue opened in November 1981 and closed in January 1997.
TheDroid 20th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicElvin Bishop @ Harrah's Lake Tahoe (1988) | One of the more disappointing concerts I have attended.
TheDroid 20th Jun 2015 | | Live MusicThe Guess Who @ Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium (1988) | Although neither band had the signature sound of their success years, it was fun to see and hear the many great songs those bands combined to produce in their heyday.
TheDroid 1st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicBlood, Sweat And Tears @ Catamaran Resort Hotel (1979) | Got a chance to meet David Clayton-Thomas at this performance. The Catamaran featured jazz artists mainly, and the band leaned towards that style this evening. They did perform a number of their hits too though. DCT was pretty funny and seemed to enjoy his drinks during intermission! This was a fairly intimate venue and was a great place to see such a band.

TheDroid 1st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicGary Puckett @ Anchorage Seafood Restaurant (1979) | I don't know when this restaurant closed its' doors, nor do I remember exactly where it was in La Jolla. I do remember that the food and drinks were most excellent thought!
TheDroid 1st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicGary Puckett @ Anchorage Seafood Restaurant (1979) | Gary was working on a "comeback" into the music industry at this time, and played a lengthy series of gigs at the Anchorage Seafood restaurant in La Jolla, CA (a part of San Diego). My sister-in-law, at that time, had worked with Gary at a car dealership in Kearny Mesa (another San Diego borough) when they were in their early 20's. Since he knew her, he would sit with us during breaks and have a drink and talk with us. I remember being surprised that he was such a proficient guitarist, because I had always thought of him as only a singer. He and his brother were both in this group.
TheDroid 1st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicAmbrosia @ Montezuma Hall (1979) | I met Ambrosia before their performance and they were wonderful individuals. Christopher North was particularly funny in that he thought they were at UCSD, not San Diego State. I have had the pleasure of talking and corresponding with drummer Burleigh Drummond several times over the years and have found him to be a very friendly fellow (and a helluva drummer!). The band signed this photo for me that night.
TheDroid 1st Jun 2015 | | Live MusicStanley Turrentine @ Catamaran Resort Hotel (1977) | My brother-in-law, at the time, was the manager of the hotel and we would often get to attend performances gratis. Sometimes an artist would even join us for a drink or a little chat between sets. Mr. Turrentine was very pleasant, but the one thing I truly remember is the man had huge nostrils! (lol) I was just over 21 at the time, enjoying the drinks. Odd the memories one can conjure up. Oh, and by the way, his saxophone was stunning that evening.

TheDroid 18th May 2015 | | Live MusicBlack Sabbath @ Sports Arena (1972) | Yikes! Not sure what happened, but apparently did not load info correctly for Deep Purple concert. This has now been corrected. [mod edit: incorrect image removed]
Thanks for the catch stevopw.

TheDroid 17th May 2015 | | Live MusicThe Who @ The Forum (1973) | This was one helluva concert. I met Lynyrd Skynyrd backstage before the show (I had a photographers pass), but mistook them for roadies (LOL), until they came back with instruments, waved and went up the stairs to the stage. The Who put on a blistering performance after playing (and talking...too much) through Quadrophenia. Sold out crowd would not leave, and The Who, somewhat reluctantly, came back for a couple encores including Townshend smashing up his good guitar. Awesome show.
