More than two years after the Quarry Men's first attempt to audition for Carroll Levis and his "TV Star Search" show, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison (the remaining Quarry Men) auditioned again for Carroll Levis, in October 1959 at the Empire Theatre, Liverpool, naming themselves Johnny and the Moondogs especially for the event. This time they were more successful and qualified for the finals.

The local finals were held between 26 and 31 October 1959 at the Empire Theatre. The band did not win but qualified for the final round at the Hippodrome Theatre in Manchester on Sunday 15 November 1959.

As it's a historical event in the context of the progress of the biggest ever group in popular music, I think we should leave it as it is, as little is known about other acts on the bill for these auditions. Carroll Levis was a bit of a Simon Cowell of his day and did not perform. The Beatles had to do it the hard way, having to perform maybe hundreds of times before getting any real fame. Nowadays the pop music industry is full of overnight success acts who have instant stardom many of whom have the talent to lipsync and little else..
TopPopper 18th Apr 2015		Although historically the Beatles/Moondogs appearing is the most important thing about the gig, they aren't mentioned on the advert, let alone as the main act. I wonder if this ought to be changed to Carroll Levis? (It's on JPGR&B's list of Beatles appearances, so wouldn't get lost.)
