Muddy Waters And His Blues Band @ Windrush
I went to this gig. I was an undergraduate student at Reading University. I didn't even know this club existed, it was in a bit of a back street, but I happened to walk past it on my way into town and spotted a poster for the gig. I could hardly believe it was him but I went and it was. The room was quite small and intimate, really crowded. Larry Johnson played some country blues on the acoustic guitar, difficult to hear over the crowd noise but great stuff. Finally, after a long hiatus, Muddy and the band were on stage and into it. Muddy himself was only on stage for about 40 minutes; I think he was still suffering from the after-effects of the car crash he was in the year before. But the band stayed onstage for another 30 or 40 minutes and played some instrumental blues. After so long, I honestly don't remember what numbers he played or who was in the band, but hey, it was Muddy Waters and it was a privilege to actually see him on stage.
