My copy of this 78 is made of vinyl and not shellac. It sounds like new, check the uploads linked here. The flip is killer rhythm and blues, the band has got the groove down and sounding real HOT!
Hooker is backed by Eddie Kirkland on guitar, both whom provides stingin’ guitars. I love the effect the overdubbed vocals gives the song. The vocals were overdubbed twice, so what you hear is 3x Hooker! Pretty inventive for it’s time by producer Bernad Besman and sound engineer Joe Siracuse. Recorded in mid-August 1949 in Detroit, Besman leased the recording to Modern, and Modern owner Jules Bihari got a writing credit with pseudonym Jules Taub. The record spent four weeks as no.1 on Billboard rhythm and blues chart and reputedly sold a million copies.
Recorded in Chicago 19th October 1955 with Hooker vocals & guitar, Jimmy Reed harmonica, Eddie Taylor guitar, George Washington bass and Tom Whitehead drums.
