Bob Regan And His California Pioneers - Farm In The Valley / The French Song		The original version of the French song is the American song “When the Sun Says Goodnight to the Mountain” written by Harry Pease (lyrics) and Larry Vincent (music), very probably in 1936. The title was soon changed to “When the Sun Says Hello to the Mountain”. Many artists, both pop and country, recorded this song.
In 1945, the Canadian country artists, Annette and Carmen Richer, heard this song on a trip to the USA. The asked a friend, Edmond Moreau, to translate the text into French. The sisters recorded the first French version in Montreal in 1945 on Starr 16648. The title was “Bonjour mon soleil”. The French version was recorded under the title “Quand le Soleil Dit Bonjour aux Montagnes” by the Canadian country artist, Lévis Bouliane, in 1955.
In the same year, Lucille Starr, recorded the first bilingual version of this song on Rodeo 138, in very good country style. On the label, credit is only given to her as composer which is clear plagiarism! Although Bob Regan is listed as artist on the label, the only vocal on this side of the disc is by Lucille Starr.
In 1956, Gerry Myers & The Bunkhouse Boys recorded this bilingual song, also on Rodeo (181).
The French song went into oblivion until Lucille Starr rerecorded it - in pop-country style - in 1963. Many cover versions, both in Canada and the USA, appeared in the years thereafter.
