78 RPM
Cedric Sharpe - Ave Maria / La Cinquantaine
The numbers 3-7868 and 3-7869 are not matrix numbers.

They were a numerical system used by the Gramophone Co Ltd (HMV and Zonophone labels; and the German subsidiary Electrola) for identifying pressed sides: it was additional to the catalogue number which was the same on both sides. The matrix mark was always only in the shellac.

From a blurred image of the record on ebay, the matrix marks in the shellac look to be BR77 and BR78, Ave Maria & La Cinquantaine respectively. The B indicated a 10-inch record and the R indicated a remote recording, i.e. away from the Hayes studios using a recording van or a General Post Office landline back to Hayes. The numbering BR77 and BR78 is consistent with the 18 December 1925 recording date. The Gramophone Co Ltd had been recording electrically for barely seven months. BR73 and 74 were cut at the Kingsway Hall by the Savoy Orpheans on 17 December 1925.
