I use Paint.net - it's quick, easy and free. Obviously from the answer it doesn't remove the rotate marker - I may see if saving it as a brand new image in Paint.net fixes this problem. If not, then I'll use the alternative which is to cut and paste into a brand new image which won't have the 'rotate' marker.
