PhilMH 4th Jun 2015 | | Cassette AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) (1970) | Looks like Decca UK were slow to take up tape - this Billboard article from 7 Nov 1970 refers to "Decca's first British tape release last month".

PhilMH 1st Jun 2015 | | Cassette AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) (1970) | I think the 1966 copyright date is for the original compilation. Decca's 1974 catalogue gives a release date of October 1970 for this and, in fact, doesn't list any tapes released before 1970 - I don't know whether Decca were slow to embrace tapes, or what.

PhilMH 1st Jun 2015 | | Cassette AlbumJohn Lennon - Imagine (1971) | Seems to me that this is most likely an original, as it still has the original company name of "E.M.I. Records (The Gramophone Company LImited)", which became EMI Records Limited in July 1973. Definitely UK because of that company name, an American issue would refer to Apple Records, Inc. (see the linked US 8-track).

PhilMH 1st Jun 2015 | | Cassette AlbumSimon And Garfunkel - Sounds Of Silence (1981) | Agreed - this (and the corresponding LP) is listed in the 1984 MUSIC MASTER, showing release date as March 1981.
|
PhilMH 21st Dec 2014 | | Cassette AlbumThe Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request (1970) | Added release date from Decca's 1974 catalogue, which doesn't seem to have any tape releases before October 1970.

PhilMH 2nd May 2014 | | Cassette AlbumNazareth - Nazareth (1981) | 1981 according to Both Sides Now. The SP/CS 3xxx series was reissues. This and the adjacent Nazareth number 3168 were originally on Warner Bros.

PhilMH 27th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (1972) | Hi jordansongs, some of what you say would make sense if this site was Discogs, which catalogues all the pressing variations with separate entries and release dates, but it isn't. My understanding of the concept for all these worlds (45cat, etc) is that all versions for the same label and catalogue number go under one entry, with the release date to be entered being the original release date. From that linked site, it would appear that the original release date for Parlophone TC-PCS 7009 would have been in 1968 or 1969, and all variations would be added to one entry. Even if there were a minor change in the alpha prefix, as long as it is still Parlophone 7009, it could be added under the same original entry. However, if there were to be an issue on Apple TC-PCS 7009, that would warrant a separate entry because it is released on a different label (and the same principle would apply to Beatles LP's/cassettes originally on Apple being re-pressed on Parlophone or Capitol).
Mods/admins: if I've got any of the above wrong, please advise, but that was how I thought these sites worked.

PhilMH 27th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumThe Beatles - Revolver (1972) | This particular copy might be 1978, but shouldn't the date entered here be the date that this was first released under this label and catalogue number? Music Master says September 1966 for both the LP and cassette (though I'm not absolutely sure whether EMI had cassettes then), but certainly no later than 1976, because TC-PCS 7009 is listed in the EMI main catalogue for that year.

PhilMH 26th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumMantovani And His Orchestra With Rawicz And Landauer - Music From The Films (1970) | 1974 Decca catalogue gives October 1970 as the release date for this tape, appears to have been one of the first batch of Decca UK tapes. Equivalent LP, Decca SKL 4014, was released in October 1958.

PhilMH 17th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumElectric Light Orchestra - Showdown (1974) | I would say so too - looks like someone mucked up by putting the circular EMI logo on the front!
|
PhilMH 13th Mar 2014 | | 8-TrackCarlos Santana And Buddy Miles - Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live! [Quadraphonic] (1973) | Maybe even a worldwide release, Louis, for distribution in any country where the label was CBS? I don't have any particular knowledge of CBS 8-tracks, but I do remember EMI in Australia marketing the 8-track versions of The Beatles' US albums (Beatles 65, Beatles VI, Something New, etc), so if EMI did that (and presumably they were exported to other countries too), then it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that other companies did the same.

PhilMH 11th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumFreddie Mercury And Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona (1988) | No, they're label and series codes, which normally equate to a price code as well. I don't know the specific meaning of the Y, but another one I can think of offhand is GA on Deutsche Grammophon's mid-price Galleria series. I don't think they should be considered part of the catalogue number - I have several CD's from the PolyGram group with various codes (on Deutsche Grammophon and Decca in particular) and the letters don't appear on the disc faces. If you look at the tape label here, the Y doesn't show. This should probably have POLH44 added as a second catalogue number.

PhilMH 7th Mar 2014 | | Cassette AlbumLloyd Price - Walkin' The Track (1986) | Pretty basic packaging from Specialty; no writers, notes or recording dates; cat number entered is as on insert, and was Specialty's format for cassettes, other form of number shown on the labels is the LP number.
