LPs have been going about a month, are are already half way towards matching the number of entries on CD singles, 78s, magazines etc. I wonder if they'll ever catch up with 45cat?

I've been wondering that.
Were more LPs or 45s issued in total, worldwide, over time?
I suspect LPs might just edge it.
I'm thinking of artists like James Last, Mantovani etc. who must have had 1000s of LPs.

Yeah I'd agree, LPs would be the bigger number I would think. Quite possibly by some way though. Not to mention the popular albums would be re-released (not just re-pressed) god knows how many times, the budget reissues, the remastered editions, and so on, and so on... far more distinct editions than you would get for a single. I think.
VAWorld is going to be absolutely huge, and will involve an unbelievable amount of work. It's terrifying and exciting in equal measure, I think, and I greatly look forward to seeing it build into the massive vinyl monster it will inevitably become.

I think 45s are more the younger generation, and as you get older you tend to go for LPs, so being older longer than young, more LPs over 45s.
I'm leaning the other way. I think more singles. One group I know stats for off the top of my head is The Beatles. 1962-70 they released 22 UK singles, about a dozen EPs and half a dozen or so Xmas flexis, plus 'Hamburg' singles. Probably 40-plus 7-inch releases. LPs on the other hand numbered about 15 - no more than 20, anyway.
Assuming that type of output is typical, the number of 45s is around double that of LPs.
To take a later example, Michael Jackson's Thriller LP spawned about six singles, to just the one LP.

I have a small stack of classical stuff filed at the end of my collection after the compilations. I haven't got that far yet but shouldn't be too long.
I'm REALLY looking forward to typing in all those Russian/long complicated composer/conductor names!
I think the winner (in the long term) will be...the CD album (assuming and hoping that we will have a CD album world soon ).
When the CD format started I thought it would be the end for independent releases with just the majors having the tools to release CDs, but it came out the other way (fortunately).

Yes but as nboldock said those 15 LPs were repressed just last year as remastered copies so that's 30 LPs, then in the after the band broke up u had comoilations like past masters, the live Hollywood bowl lp, fame reissues a collection of Beatles oldies, the history of rock did a Beatles lp, then MFP rereleased some compilations. And that's just in the UK !! So I think LPs might just do it.
Also although jackson had an lp with six singles there must be loads of albums out there they had no associated singles ?
Also just remembered the LPs by the Beatles with exception of the last two werein stereo and mono wwith different cat numbers so they are listed on here as different releases. So that means theres more original LPs compared to 45s
