hi all, i have a 78 here that i bough from a charity shop a bit back. only just had the chance to look at and i don't under stand a few things. this is the first 78 i have bought so here is the info about it,
label: brunswick
A: it came upon the midnight clear
B: o holy night
artist: ethel smith - organ with chimes, vibraphone and celeste accompaniment.
the things i can't find out or understand are, there isn't a date on it at all, also there isn't anything online that i can find out about it. i couldn't find it on 45 worlds and i was going to add it, but i don't know much about it. someone told me that i could be part of a box set but as i said i can't find anything online.
Hi rematzz, although you have not given a catalogue number, which should be the best way to find more about a record on the web, I guess I can help you.
If I search for artist, titles and label, I come to Brunswick # 04408, apparently released at the end of 1949 or the beginning of 1950, see here. As it is a Christmas record, December 1949 seems to be a safe bet. For a backup I have looked at the UK Brunswick label discography on this site, and find the Dec 1949 date fitting the sequence of the numbers.
