Yes, I need to rewrite parts of that. 45Worlds and Cat now store original images larger that 1600px square at original size, allowing high-quality downloads of the images.
Also, the PDN keyboard shortcuts have changed

I have an Epson A4 scanner and scanned this label with the record sitting on the raised sides with the gap between the glass and the record, no bottles of water and no foot.
See here for the result.

How? I also have an Epson A4 scanner and did the same. The label is still a bit blurry though.

My Epson model is a V37 and one thing I have discovered with it is the space between the glass and the reader is not accurate and creates the label image to be marginally oval shaped rather than round. By lifting the record a small amount above the glass I get round images and when I lift slightly higher again they become oval again in the opposite direction.

Regardless of all that I have not had a blurry image. The settings I use are:
Mode: Professional Mode
Document Type: Reflective
Document Source: Document Table
Auto Exposure Type: Document
Image Type: 48-bit Color
Resolution: 400 dpi
Documint Size: A4 (default)
Trimming: On
Unsharp Mask Level: Medium (Box not ticked)
Descreening Screen Ruling: Magazine (133 lpi). (Box not ticked)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, my Epson model doesn't let me choose a different Document or Image Type. So the resultant scan looked the same, blurry. However, putting a few large books on top did result in a better scan (see my last addition).

I live quite close to my local library, which has an A3 photocopier/scanner, allowing me to scan 10" 78s without any cost. If you live near a library, I recommend trying this. However, I didn't find 300 dpi good enough quality, so I've switched to 600 dpi, and the file sizes aren't much bigger.

It might be worth adding a note for newbies to the "guide to adding images" instructions, to state that labels should be cropped to a circle prior to uploading. I only joined this group a few days ago and I have uploaded over 50 uncropped label images so far... I assumed incorrectly that there must be a template applied post upload (along with automatically resizing the image). I will make sure that future uploads are cropped and edit the ones I've done so far but I did read the instructions (below) and if it had said to crop in there it would have saved me some grief:-

Thanks Redpunk, I am enjoying it very much. Great to find such a helpful community and a great way of cataloguing all my 78s. I'm very happy to contribute, and it's actually quite exciting managing to fill in the blanks and learning all the time as I go!

All of my previously uploaded label images have now been cropped to circles But I only did half of them myself - the rest were already edited and fixed by moderators before I got to them - sorry guys, I didn't know! Special thanks and apologies go to scrough who alone fixed 20 of my label images!!!

No need to apologise, Stephen. We expect things like this from new members until we can let them know what the site standards really are. I fixed many of your A sides but was impressed by the quality of your images - only a few were slightly 'perspective distorted' or rotated and they all showed the whole label. If only all submitted images were like this

Another quick question (is it okay to ask it here rather than start another topic? No, that's not the question  )...
I've just added 3 Columbia 12" LX series records.
Previously when adding, I have tried to get a date as accurate as I can via Google, other sites, catalogues and finding records from this site with Cat numbers either side of my one.
So my dates have been as good as I could get them but it has taken a lot of time for each one and there is a margin of error.
I read on one of the Forum topics that you have a tool for completing the date if it is left blank, so I have left it blank for the 3 records I added today.
Is that acceptable? I don't want to make work for you moderators - you have enough to do. Or is the date tool available to the rest of us, so that I can look up my own dates when adding 78s in the future?
Thanks, Stephen.

Have a look at this Forum post: lots of useful info sources. If unsure of date, just add the year. Don't worry if you get it wrong as it will get picked up at some point.
https://www.45worlds.com/topic/60015
And no, there is no magic fix for the date, just knowledge of us oldtimers and trawling through source material.

Thanks for uploading your images. I agree, we do need a note to ask users to crop their images. I personally find it really annoying having to crop uploaded images, I have done a fair few which were added by others. To be fair, I've also had to do it on 45cat, and their guide does specify that users should crop the labels.
