when i add a classical item, the e.g. directs that anton bruckner should be listed in the artist field before claudio abbado and orchestra.
bruckner is best known as a composer, and many of his pieces've been recorded without his active involvement as soloist or conductor.

is it intended that composers not actively involved in recordings of their works be listed here in the artist field, when adding a classical lp/cassette/cd/78/45 ?

The 'Artist' credentials are not applied as rigorously in Classical as in other Worlds: the intention is just to ascribe titles and performers in whatever way they appear on the record, so that we will have something to identify the record.
'Conductor' should be ascribed morer rigorously, while 'Composer' is intended to use the same, internationally accepted, name irrespective of how it is spelled or abbreviated on the record. Please accepted any relevant drop-down menu suggestion for Composer
