 | Break-In Master Member since Dec 2013 251 Points | I just added a bunch of Varsity's to the page and noticed there's two different Varsity sections! What's the difference? They're both the same label, but one's in N..Y. and the other's a few miles away in Conn.. |

The 1930's variation was a product of United States Record Corporation. It folded and the label name and logo was used in 1948 by Wright Record Corporation. Unfortunately they used the same 8000 numbering series, so we decided to do them here as two separate labels to better maintain the accuracy and integrity of the listing in particular when records are added with sketchy information or no image is provided as proof of the entry. | fixbutte Member since Jan 2013 1483 Points Moderator | The two different sections go back to a correction submitted by Tailspin. Originally a late 1930s label founded by Eli Oberstein, Varsity was closed down around Sep 1940. It was reopened in 1948 by the Wright Record Corporation and soon moved from New York City to Meriden, Connecticut. As there was a lot of cat# duplication (both editions had an 8000 series), the separation seemed to be a good idea. (My post has apparently crossed with Amy's.)
