This has been one of our out worst kept secrets….
It's time for a new world to enter public Beta - Book World.
The moderators have been testing this world for a few weeks now and it seems to be running smoothly but we'll start a forum thread for any bugspots that might crop up.
For any other feedback or questions please use this thread.
Entering a book should be simple for anyone who has used any of the other worlds.
Bibliographies may look a little odd to begin with but as more books are added original publication dates and original non English language titles will start to display in the appropriate way.
It's probably worth mentioning that any books can be added NOT just music related books.
Sterling work as usual,i'm sure this will prove to be a very popular world, with seemingly endless scope.Would it be an idea to have a "Read It" button (as in,"i've read it") added?.Perhaps it could just be an incremental counter, that just goes up by one when clicked (no need to identify the clicker, but perhaps restrict it to one click per member (logged-on),per book,i.e,if you've read a book 10 times, you still only get one click),i think it would give a good idea as to which are the most popular books,as,unlike music perhaps, books aren't always retained once read (unless you're a book collector of course;).Just throwing it out there.
PS Thanks to OC (and all involved) for getting the Top 50's going again, nice one
Before I add any, I have a few old second hand cloth bound books, which don't have a dust jacket, or anything on front...
...would it be worth uploading the inside title page as the lead image, as opposed to the front cover of the book?
as while it may make for a pleasant abstract mosaic of blocks of colour on the home page, it won't be very informative.
Your thinkings?
While discussion is ongoing, I would say don't hold back - do add them when you can. At the moment there are a number of books with the plain hard cover showing, so it wouldn't do any harm to add it that way.
If, in the end, it's decided to make the inside title page primary, yours and any others will be spotted and changed, or you can make a note to self to check it later - it's not over-important right now, which order the images are in. The World is in early days still.
Annoyingly I have given away a few of my older books, or sold too cheaply colourful hardbacks. I will see how linked releases go ( and those Pot-Pouri Books of short stories by one or more authors, editions, re-prints, publisher changes , etc , should be interesting )
I notice that the books I submitted several hours ago haven't appeared on the "latest updates" panel, whereas books submitted more recently have. Am I doing something wrong or should I be completing the last box to offer evidence that my books exist?
Items will not appear on front pages until an image has been approved by a moderator.
They will of course appear in 'Latest Added'
I wonder how much work has to go into approval - I assume that wonky, out of focus, 'incorrect', NSFW(hidden) have to be unapproved or special treatment to keep them off the front pages.

Something like that yes, but it's all quite straightforward, the moderator tools we have work pretty well generally.
