I don't know whether anyone else has had similar thoughts.
With music, I am satisfied with clicking the 'I Own' button for items in my collection.. However, with books, I feel that the addition of an 'I've Read' button would be useful. Perhaps, not that revolutionary, because we can already click on a film seen (on Cinema) and also click on the DVD if we possess it.
Any thoughts?

Sounds good... after all, just as you don't take the cinema home with you, many books will have been read through borrowing from the library.

(remember those?) :grin:

Well, presumable the contents should not change ( are abridged, edited,re-illustrated, Bowdlerised, translated, revised, prefaced, annoted should be different books) If it is just the jacket variation then that would not stop one for reading the wordage. Personally I am onto the large print editions from the library nowadays. Are plagerised works bootlegs in bookworld?

- i suggest that "plagerised" works should be classified here as "sandlegs".

Good question. If we were to add a "Read It" button, it would work best if you could see everyone who'd read the same book, not just the same issue.

Mmm...it's tricky.
Generally speaking, I'm sure most people would be happy to click a title of a book they have read, without having to worry about the edition. Readers may recall books from years ago, but not the edition or publisher. And there will be those who read a book and then pass it on, or view digital editions.
How an 'I've read' button could be put into practice, I've no idea - although there seem to be some very capable technical wizards on this site!

My point in a nutshell.

If there are multiple editions (even multiple publications) on here, which one would you tick as being Read? :confused:

*nods* yes, would-be-good, so long as it did exclude bowdlerised and otherwise truncated versions as their own separate items;

- but i'm not at all sure about multiple different translations into another language;

- "hmm. . ."°

° - transl: "it's trickier to phrase the necessary & sufficient conditions, than at first appeared..."

You'd have to have the same kind of relationship as exists between Cinema world and DVD/BluRay World.... where the general title clicked read, as "seen" is in cinema world, but an edition "owned" would be in books....

...So just an entire new world required for "read": Story world (?)

In the section "Add Missing Info" I need option for adding language. For most of the books that I added, I forgot to specify this and now they are not listed in the main search lists. So many work for nothing. :erk:

If this is not possible in a day or two, I'm going to add them again so that they to be listed but then they all will be doubled in the database.

Please don't enter them again. Use "Make Correction" for now and the Mod team will fill it in.
