No pictures yet, but a cache of approaching 50 78s from 1920s to 1940s, not all intact but will be able to add some labels. All for the price of a battered secondhand suitcase to put them into to aid taking them away.
The majority are His Master's Voice UK classical issues in the C, D and DB series, some of which are odd parts of album sets.
I've entered it as shown with discussion open as to cleaning it up per my comments
Given what research I have done, this appears to be a test pressing of "You Try Somebody Else (We'll Be Back Together Again)" by Kate Smith as recorded for Velvet Tone in 1931 and released by them as catalogue number 2465. Certainly it is her singing and this youtube video matches the record
The runout has the master number W 365038 (W in a circle) as well as the number 65070. I can't determine what that corresponds to as far as a catalogue number to track it to an exact label or country.
Also -- not an acetate in that sense, but a single sided ten inch shellac test pressing
A kind colleague gave me a whole album, all pouches double-stacked, of near-mint condition Artie Shaw records on Bluebird, including some of my favorite songs by him. And to top it all off, the album also contained a first pressing of Glenn Miller's "In The Mood", which was also still missing on this site. I've been swinging all weekend.
Bought a whole collection as a lot. Around 250 jazz records, with a few blues and gospels, and around 100 more of french stuff that I'm not really into (still in boxes to be explored later). All french pressings from the late 30's to early 50's, in E +/-. 30+ Armstrong, 25 Ellington, 18 Quintette of the Hot Club of France, 12 Basie etc...
Many original sleeves (some are not yet published on the 78 rpm company sleeves site, but will be ASAP), but also plenty of plain sleeves with handwritten reviews from the French magazine Hot Jazz, from the first owner, all dated from 1945 to 1948. Gives the collection a unique taste! (sorry for the blurry picture)
Well, you got me here
Thing is, I confess, I haven't slowed down a bit and I've stoped trying. I feel I'll buy less for a while since I'll be busy with the collection. But "less" doesn't mean "not at all" !
Love the music and the records that contain it, that's all
