Those of you who look at the Magazines World may have noticed that for the past six months or more I have been adding my collection of "Blues & Soul" magazines from 1970 onwards (currently I'm nearing the end of 1990).
When I started this exercise B&S held a very lowly position in the "Titles with Most Items" listing available via the 45Worlds "Explore" option. Due to my persistence it has gradually made its way up the listings (adding untold excitement to my life as it overtook other publications) and at the beginning of last week, with 500+ issues added, the unassuming little publication had made it into the Top 5 and was catching up with such heavyweights as "Sounds" and "The New Musical Express".
For a few days last week I was side-tracked by other things and didn't add any new "Blues & Souls". Two or three days ago I resumed my task. Imagine my utter shock and horror when I checked the "Most Items" listing to find that "B&S" had been shunted well down the list by such strange publications as "The Beatles" (UK and USA versions), "Bing Crosby", "Elvis Presley", "Petula Clark" and "Connie Francis" (Europe and Indonesian versions) and that currently the most listed magazine is "Various Artists USA" (with 10827 issues), closely followed by "Various Artists UK" (with 10514 issues). Furthermore if I click on any of these strange new entries for details of the issues I get the dreaded "Error 404 Page Not Found" message!!
Who is to blame for this sad state of affairs? Has Putin been up to his tricks again? Has Kim Jong Un decided that The Magazines World is some capitalist plot against his hermit fiefdom and launched a cyber-attack on it? Has GCHQ done some hacking to divert attention from the upcoming General Election? Is 45Worlds being held to ransom by some obscure criminal gang, and if so how much are they asking for? (I might be able to pitch in a 5p or two)
