this is an opinion piece...

CD albums and singles come packaged in a certain order. First comes a booklet or an insert. Then there's the disc. Then the back tray insert which may be printed on both sides. No matter which of these is present or not, they should be uploaded in order so the viewer can see everything IN ORDER. Front to back. There are far too many pages with mixed up images and I don't like it. The CD shouldn't be at the top of the page unless there was nothing before it in the package. I would expect a database to have each item in order, and the 45worlds are mostly like that. Surely logic, order and common sense can be the norm.

I needed to get that off my chest.

I agree that a disc should not be the first image. When you buy a CD that comes sealed the first thing you look at is the Cover Inlay, then automatically flip it to view the CD Tray Insert with the track listing. The last thing you see is the CD and any associated inserts inside the case. That's the way I tend to list them.

WW I agree!

It makes sense that the images should follow some order to make the database look uniformal.

To me it should be:

Slip case front then back (if it exists)
Booklet front
Booklet internal pages (if scanned)
Booklet back
Inside tray (if it is printed)
Outside tray (the back of the cd) (with the spines)
Disc
Any inserts
Any case stickers

I absolutely agree with this order. As a matter of fact I've been adding images in that order from the day one. Except I add booklet front and back in that order. In many cases it's one image over front and back of the booklet

I use the same order with the exception that I tend to put the CD image before the back covers, but I can change that from this point forward. The problem arises where say an entry has the front, back and CD image added.along with what some may class as relevant booklet pages containing composer credits for example. The remaining booklet pages and any other images.are sometime added later by another person or even the originator. The order then becomes random.

Just a reminder for catters to use the "Make Correction" button to point out any not in order and the Mods can get the images sorted.

This is a bit of an old chestnut the most important image in all worlds is the 1st image which IMHO is how it would be displayed on the rack at the time of purchase.
The precise order of the rest is not hugely important it is best to remember that the sites have mostly guidelines not rigid rules and it is better to have some images then none.

I totally agree with this ... it would never occur to me to put an image of the disc after anything contained within any booklet, or (especially) after the tray, or before the back of the entire package as to me the disc is the most important part of the package and "deserves" to be near the front. But then obviously my thought processes differ from those of others.

We all have our own pet hates and to be honest the order of images isn't on my radar. No, what gets my motor running is so called alphabetical order and this site is guilty on that score. For instance, a search for Cliff Richard finds him in the 'C's wrong! He should of course be in the 'R's. An even worse crime as far as I'm concerned is including 'The' in an artist name. The Tamperer is simply 'Tamperer', The Tabernacle is simply 'Tabernacle' The Tea Party is simply 'Tea Party' etc etc etc. Look in ANY reference book to find this is correct.
Well there you go, that's my whinge!

I don't think it's a case of "right" or "wrong". For artist names we use a standard which is to follow what it says on the release itself. We do not exclude "The" if it is there on the release. The Smiths are called The Smiths. They are not called Smiths.

Secondly for alphabetical order it is standard across all the Worlds that artist are sorted by first name. Personally this is also how I do it at home but that's just my preference. Appreciate it may look unusual to those who choose to do it a different way at home, but it isn't "wrong" - it's just a different way (and it isn't about to change I don't think).

I suppose under this alternative ordering 'The The' would have to become 'The'
