Part of the reason why cassettes are so fringe these days is that hardly anyone has a cassette player. They used to be in nearly ever car, and on Walkmans etc. But without the hardware, there's not much use for the tape itself.
Just heard from an antique dealer in a small college town that he's selling around 5 tapes a week, for between $3-5 each, to college students who've bought themselves older cars that only have tape decks and enjoy driving their friends around in them and listening to vintage tapes. Who knew!
Vera Lynn, Val Doonican, Max Byegraves, whats the bulk postage and customs to US of A.
(Beach Boys, Alice Cooper, Monkees, maybe worth a bit more !)
20p each from local chazza, without orignal cases often. ( and the double packs that only have one of the best of the Carpenters ).
Buying a car just to get a cassette player seems a bit expensive, and the one in the Austin 1300 chewed tape up, shorted out , exploded and set fire to the car.
The Renault hot-hatch did not like those slimline tapes that were popular for a while and none seem to like C120 mix tapes.
