I'm in the process of editing all the new material from the 50th Anniversary edition of Woodstock (38 CD's) into the recordings I've had for at least a decade (lots of stuff that's not on the 50th) I'm having an issue with the Ravi Shankar performance, though.
What I've got is longer than what's on the 50th but, only small bits of two of the tracks I have match up with what's on the 50th!
I've checked YT for recordings of his performance at Woodstock and they both are from different sources and they both match what I've already got!
Does anyone here know for sure which set of these recordings is the real Woodstock performance?
I'd LIKE to have this all settled and done with before the anniversary this Aug..
Somewhat helpful would be knowing exactly how long he played!

BM - I've been following the Woodstock Project for a few years, probably the most complete record of what actually happened at Woodstock. Prior to the 50th Box Set, the only RS track they had as genuine was the first song (Rāga Puriya-Dhanashri (Gat In Sawarital)), which was released in 2009 on the 40th anniversary set. This was sourced from a mono soundboard tape.
This article explains what happened to the original RS multi-tracks and how the mono tape was enhanced for the 50th Box Set. It's an interview with the 50th BS producer, Andy Vax, who talks specifically about the RS recordings.
In summary it seems the 50th Box Set has the real Woodstock performance.

Thanks loads for the info! I've been involved with the project for over a decade, too.
The problem I'm having is that the two tracks in question that I've got have SOME parts that match up perfectly with Andy's version which is why I question which is legit and which is not. I've played them side by side on the computer and can visually match up large sections to be ABLE to play them side by side and they are note perfect and even have the exact same verbal sounds and those from the audience!
Also, I've noticed that Andy's version of the rest of the concert is actually missing tiny bits here and there. If this is SUPPOSED to be the full concert, why are those bits missing? This ALSO leads me to the possibililty that Andy's version of the Ravi Shankar performance might not be the real one. In a way, I feel like Columbo because "there's just a bunch of little lose ends I need to tie up".
I've compared the timings from his version with mine and there are a number of tracks where mine are longer. Comparing those to his, the same way I mentioned,, is how I'm finding these little bits that I've got that he doesn't.
As you're involved with the project, do they or you have Andy's version, now, and are they going to release an updated version with the new stuff he's added? I haven't been able to get a word out of them since the last update so, I have no clue what they're doing.
Also, do you have a copy of the 38 CD version? I've been able to get recordings of all but 4 of the CD's in the set and would like to find a way to get those as soon as possible. I need CD's 6 (Melanie), 11 (Santana), 23 (The Who) and 29 (Ten Years After).
