If you're looking at the 1940 charts, it's odd that there are three different versions of "We'll go smiling along" in the same top 20?

I wonder if it was in fact only Geraldo who had the hit with "We'll go smiling along"? I know he did it at this time - 1940.

Turner Layton - Trade Winds = here

Issy Bonn did "Goodnight Till Tomorrow"

Victor Sylvester - If Tears Could Bring You Back (1940) = here

One more:
Parlophone F-1786 Issued December 1940 Deleted February 1943
Billy Thorburn's The Organ, The Dance Band And Me
(H. Robinson Cleaver, organ, Billy Thorburn, piano and His Dance Band)
If Tears Could Bring You Back, Wz (vocal Terry Devon)
I'll Never Make The Same Mistake Again, FT (vocal Alan Kane)

And just in case you've got it confused:
Parlophone F-1831 Issued May 1941, Deleted Feb 1943
Billy Thorburn's The Organ, The Dance Band And Me
A Little Steeple Pointing To A Star, QS.(vocal Terry Devon)
It's Always You, FT. (vocal Wally Windsor)

I am confused now.

For Mike.
First of all see if the discs are listed here. If so create a list (called something like Discs I am Looking To Find) and add each disc to it.
If not, try discogs - (tricky as sometimes the cat number entered there wont match the cat number you are looking for but try a few variations on the artist name and title).
MOST Billy Thorburn 78s have been transcribed onto at least Cassette Compliations , which I dont think are on the world here (pain to add) but probably ARE on Discogs - check one of the users who added them as its a Dance Band/Organ website with a load of digitised recordings on it from those tapes. Of course could have slipped completely or the recording is not from the UK pressing you are probably looking for. I have a person on a UK facebook page that is going to flash up some photos of 78s from their fathers collection , so maybe we might get a bit of info (though I doubt it).

I think the Decca issue of Ambrose & His Orchestra – Goodnight, Children Everywhere has the vocals credited to Vera Lynn. Not sure that Issy Bonn did a version - nothing appears on a compilation I can find

Caroll Gibbons did a track called Goodnight, My Lucky Day.

Mike - Are you using - or can you get from your local library any of the Brian Rust discographies of artists and labels ?

Searching for Beryl Davis is a big problem as she is normally credited only for vocals in this period (usually on Geraldo records). More info please!

Edit: But might be

This is with Oscar Rabin and His Band, recorded Jan 18 1940, on Rex 9717.

I checked it and F-1786 is the correct number in my source list for the requested track. F-1766 is:
Billy Thorburn, piano solo with drums
Released Oct 1940 Deleted Feb 1943
Waltz Medley - Intro; Love, Stay In My Heart, I'll Be Waiting For You, By The Wishing Well
Fox-Trot Medley - Intro: Tiggerty-Boo, Imagination, When I Dream Of Home

Sorry , you are right, wretched Google search for F 1786 throwing at me a result for F 1986 (a Geraldo Disk ) and F 1766 for the Billy Thorburn query , I mis read one of the numbers for that which I was looking for and didnt re-check the F 1766 title before I had to rush out.
