One of the most important features of the Book world is automatic-linking of different editions of a book.

Currently this happens via the English Title field in the template.

Well, how to link the editions of different languages if there isn't official English edition?

Now, I can't link this primary edition: https://www.45worlds.com/book/title/nc471145dd to other language editions because there isn't English edition.

The four editions are now linked, from a Correction Request.

OK. Thanks for that. Now, I can continue adding more editions.

So, to solve the general problem, I think The Book world needs two more features to be added to the template:

1. As it is in the DVD world: Add Missing Info>>Add Another Title
2. An Original Title line next to the English Title line lower in the template.

As for the 'English Title', if an English language edition does not exist, and there might be variations of the non-English title, one could translate the title into English: example.

it would be better - and easiest - to understand

(- and for the possibly mythical divinity eventually to relabel -)

the ''english language title'' field as the ''original language title'' field;

- as different translations of a title into english,

(- and even different editions of the same translation of a book into english -)

can and do produce totally different titles in english:

- which bookcat will not automagically sort together.

whereas, if they all bear the one original title in this field, they will be correctly sorted together -

- thanks to the possibly mythical oc's coding -

- automagically.

Yes, it’s magic how a good link works. I agree with ppint. Although English is the main language on this site I agree the original language title should be the main linking factor in this.

Dear comrades, it works actually as described by ppint. Take a look at "George Simenon" and you'll find several Maigret titles linked "magically" by their original titles, even if there are only German and English language versions on the DB yet. (I took the liberty of modding those UK editions present at the time accordingly, as obviously the original submitters did not think of this, as their book was the "English" tite).
I use this for ages, actually, never found the "English" part of original title as a limitation to the functionality.....One has to carefully look on the copyright page though, and hope that the foreign language edition has the correct title.
And I am afraid you would have to put the title additionally into "English title" for any non-English language book just in case any translation might turn up sometime.
Summary: a workaround that might involve lots of editing.
