In 1959, a friend of my parents gave me a children's record for Christmas. Just before leaving their apartment to come back home that night, a picture was taken of little me at 2 years old holding this record. I can remember playing the record there at their place that night, it was a woman singing a song and telling the story of a Sleepyhead Squirrel. I'm not sure if it was a 5", 6" or 7" record or if it was a 78 or 45 but I do know it had a red label and a small spindle hole. Does anyone have that or know what it was? I'm guessing mom eventually threw it away. There were several records from that era that vanished from my collection by the mid `60's.

No, I don't think so. This was an American woman and I don't think the record was on red vinyl. I'm pretty sure it was a solid rec label with black print.

While I don't go out of my way, I won't say no to a cool-looking 45 or 78 (especially coloured vinyl or picture discs) in that category. There are some interesting oddities I've come across, like a Christmas 78 release die-cut into the shape of Santa Claus' face and a Mitch Miller-backed 78 with the truly affirming title "Eustis the Useless Rabbit"!
