Suggestion:
I do think this is a very good feature and I will trawl through my collection on rainy days to update .
One of the categories is "Country" we could have "Country & Western" as in Yee Haw type music - then "Country Rock" as in early Eagles and Linda Ronstadt efforts.

You can combine genres, eg add Country and Rock to a record.
Nice feature - will there be scope for Mods to add new genres.
Like kab I am thinking for sub genres for some of the main genres such as Jazz: Bop, Hard Bop, Fussion etc.
No, but only because the number of genres would quickly grow to be unmanageable for a drop-down list. We are definitely going to add more genres, but it's going to be carefully thought out.
A great addition, just an enquiry on how many you would like members to do in a batch, i.e,i've just done a batch of 25 in one go, is that too much? i.e, does a MOD have to check and OK each Genre entry?, would smaller batches of 10 be better?, or do you want larger batches?. I've just done some Electronic one's and it takes a little while, is there perhaps a way to "blanket genre" artists in one go?, i.e it would save a LOT of time and effort if you could use Genre 1 for bulk classifying, i.e, all the Rolling Stones as ROCK for Genre 1, then, Genres 2&3 could sub-genre by individual album depending on content, i.e, a Stones album with Rock as Genre1 might have Blues as Genre 2., but Rock would be the main genre for that artist, just as Electronic would be for Tangerine Dream, or Folk for Fairport Convention, etc. etc.
Obviously, if you were alble to do Genre 1 as bulk, then it may be better if the Moderators decide on the Genre 1/main genre for any artist with 100's of entries...
(Just a thought to speed things up/might help with the enormous backlog)

@gregs45s
As far as I know we are relying on the integrity and knowledge of the community to add the genres as they see fit.
You can do as many as you like and we thank you for your input.

Thanks for the suggestions, yes please do as many genres as you want. The idea to set eg all Fairport Convention records as folk is something we considered, but we decided that it could lead to problems editing a large group of records at once. So each record needs to be set individually.
Maybe difficult or impossible but maybe it would be better to have genre for an artist across all relevant sites. Try to avoid an artist being Rock in Vinyl albums and Soul in CVDs,
Just added a CD and going through the 'Genre' list there is a category for 'Psychedelic'. It should really be 'Psychedelia' as that's how it's always referred to as a Genre
