Not wanting to flood the site with requests as I've been told off.......It just seems that of all the artists who were prolific in the 1940's, Turner Layton discs are some of the hardest to find......I wonder what were the hardest to get for other members ?.....I have 10 of Turner Layton's on my Wants list....The latest being "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" which it would seem is what I am doing.......What are those discs that other members would like to get to fill the gaps in their collections ?

Turner Layton does indeed seem to have a disproportionate number of hard-to-locate records. As mentioned in another post, I've been putting together a Columbia FB discography for the 40s, and found Turner Layton issues to be by far the hardest to find even a mention of, let alone a recording.

It does seem to be somewhat of a puzzle. In total, he released 95 records on the FB label in the 40s, which is behind only Carroll Gibbons (188) and Victor Silvester (279), so his recordings must have sold well (as also evidenced by his constant presence in the Missing Charts book). It's maybe more just a reflection of changing tastes - his style of singing was already out of date in the 40s, and I suspect it was mainly the older generation that were buying his records. Their children probably didn't want to listen to them, nor would record dealers be able to sell them, so a lot would have just been thrown out as early as the 50s and 60s. Certainly today I doubt there are many people who would buy a Turner Layton record or enjoy listening to him. There must be some though - it's just a question of you finding them...

You could just reply to your previous Turner Layton topic, if you don't want to flood the site...

The one Turner Layton 78 I would like to have - or at least obtain a decent transfer of - is Lucky You, Lucky Me / Lonely Sweetheart on Columbia FB 2320. The first title was from a Jessie Matthews show, but not recorded by her or anyone else. There is sheet music with Matthews on the front cover. I do have videos of both sides being played, sent to me by a Turner Layton collector I met at the City of London Phonograph and Gramophone Society. He collects Layton and Johnstone records, seemingly including Layton's solo work. The collector in question doesn't seem able to do digital transfers, alas!

Most of these refer to Layton & Johnstone together not Turner Layton on his own
