How have other members solved the problems of having gaps in their collections, having a Wants list and what to do with it...(Polite answers please !!)....I have tried on this site till others, quite rightly, were getting fed up with me and I have contacted The British library who quote between £20-30 per side to copy providing I can get the copyright permission....I am an amputee so my walking anywhere is almost impossible so my days of clambering over piles of records is over.....Pretty much housebound but remaining cheerful with the music of the 40's played every day.....Does anyone specialise in Wants lists ?.....Is this the best site to ask this question.....Have tried a multiplicity of other sites on the net and they are either USA based or do not reply or if they do they are often patronising to the question..."Why Do You Want That ??"....So any advice would be welcome, its is not a huge list (39 at this present time) but some have been there that long I despair of ever hearing them in this life

The list will be significantly shorter if you get the transfers from the British Library and King’s College… are you going to proceed with the BL? The recordings are public domain, you don’t need copyright permission! And have you emailed EMI Archives?

I do have quite a few “wants” but the ones I’ve been after for a while are very elusive. Apart from eBay, Discogs and Music Stack, where else can you buy them online? I have saved searches on eBay, and a wants list on Discogs.

Unfortunately I think many of these older and scarcer 78s are just hiding away in people’s collections - many of them probably aren’t internet users. A lot of people just seem to hoard things and won’t share, alas. So maybe you might not see such records until the owner dies! Some people who deal in 78s might not even bother with selling online - I met one at the Birmingham fair on Sunday who I know doesn’t. And people who aren’t dealers might not think such records are worth listing online.

Some dealers used to respond to “wants” lists, but I’m not sure if anyone still does.

It is worth looking at the facebook 78 trading groups, they are moderately busy but not too busy so the odd want might bring forth fruit. Have you also contacted Ewbanks auctioneers in the Ripley area as they do music and media sales specialists as well as the normal monthly house clearance type sales.

I’m not on Facebook but I have heard about those groups. I’ve just looked at the Ewbanks website.
