I am curious if anyone else has tried to gather together all the discs mentioned in this book....Would love to know how you got on.....Did you complete the task ???....What made you give up ???...Disappointed at no replies at all from my advert in Memory Lane magazine.....I have ordered 5 recordings from Kings College which still leaves 14 to get from a total of nearly 2700.....Perhaps I have exhausted this site as well !!
I can easily imaging that no one has done it, but you never know. I wonder how many copies the book sold. What is odd is that Colin Brown, who compiled the missing charts, produced compilation CDs for years. He had a huge 78 collection, tens of thousands (I wonder who got it?). So he could have included these tracks on his CDs, unless he didn’t have them of course. There were CDs planned which were based on the book, but in the end the only ones released were just the number ones.
I’m not surprised you’ve had no replies from your Memory Lane advert. I think the readers tend to prefer the earlier dance band era (1930s), and the readership may not be huge. I haven’t had many responses to my adverts there. I have had replies to my ads in For the Record, the CLPGS magazine. You should try that.
I think you will probably need to get transfers from King’s College or the British Library for the others!
Still, you’ve done well to get all the others. I noticed that you weren’t looking for any American records. Presumably those have been reissued before, or are easier to find.
Yes I'm gonna try that magazine.....The 5 that I have ordered has exhausted this months budget so I will take my time, with only 14 left on this list it should not be too long then I'll go to the 1950-1952 list and my London 78's...............

I'd have thought that the idea of collecting them all would have occurred to quite a few people who bought the book, but you're probably the first to have got this far anyway! There was a thread on Dusty's Old Gold music forum (https://oldgoldmusic.freeforums.net) where they got to around mid-1941, but with a lot of gaps. In fact that's where I first heard about the book. I did try asking to see if anyone had the ones on your list, but didn't get a reply. Not surprising, as the forum is pretty much dead now.
I am doing (cannot remember what user name), the virtual list of 78s that are in the book from information supplied to me, looking at HMV label first but I did 20 in a week and not been able to get around to much else with a wobbly laptop and rather a lot of other physical issues getting in the way over the past three weeks. I might get it done by Christmas

The original 78s? Or just the recordings?
The idea is to get the label images for them here, and put them on a 45worlds list. I am less interested in the actual audio
