Well I have seen both city are listed but are the same place as TORINO is original Italian name of a city in Northern Italy Region called PIEMONTE (English Translation is PIEDMONT). Well gigs are on both TORINO and TURIN (English city name translation). Well which one is properly correct to use ? Thanks

Hi Alle, a topic I have too thought of much in the past.
Short answer IMHO a]stick to what is there if venue already listed. b] if venue listed twice go to largest list. c] if new venue set up on city SPELLING with most venues.
That seems easy enough but so open to venues being written up twice still.

Long answer involves lots of other, mostly European cities/towns. Milan, Florence, Rome even, then further to Nuremburg, Cologne (Koln!!), Vienna, etc, etc.
Considering this to be a UK site, and most input is in English my revised idea today is to use English name followed by COUNTRY language name in uppercase then = Turin, Koln, Vien, Roma, etc, - where known.
Therefore uniting 2, or at times even more, pages for clarity.
eg; Turin; ITALIAN = Turino
Cologne; GERMAN = Koln
Vienna; AUSTRO-BAVARIAN = Wean, & GERMAN = Wien.
No brackets to distract from importance of local names.

More ideas welcome.

A topic which I too have mulled over many times. I like your suggestion in principle rocket666 but it strikes me as unnecessarily detailed. Do we really need to explain that Torino is Italian or Wien is German?
A simple convention of English name / foreign name would suffice imho.

Turin / Torino
Vienna / Wien
Rome / Roma
Cologne / Köln
etc
