I know the changes in the design for the label are pretty well documented for 45's, but we are seeing some mix of gold & silver top labels, through the selection put up already for the 78's. Does anybody know if the label changes follow the example set by the london 45's?

Heres a quick thing I did for London 78 label design. Amendments are welcome.

LONDON 78 LABELS

L.500 L.501l.506 Blue labels ”Made in England” at the top
“Unauthorised public performance broadcasting and copying of this record prohibited”

1950
Black Label ”Made in England” at the top
Rim text increased to read “All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved- Unauthorised public performance broadcasting and copying of this record prohibited”

”Made in England” disappears now and then
L.1161 appears with short rim text

1954 8000 SERIES begins

Started on same black labels as above all bearing a standardised MSC matrix number and early ones make no mention of US label of origin
Sept 1954 sees US label of origin added to labels

June 1955
Silver tops being used exclusively
Early silver tops had matrix in brackets on left side and “Made in England” generally either side of the spindle hole
US label of origin detail under spindle hole above title when they remembered it

December 1955
Attempts to locate US label of origin on left side of label and matrix number to six o’clock position (upside-down)and becomes standard by January 1956 with odd exceptions
May 1957
“Made in England” now fixed on the right of spindle hole
May 1958
“Recording first published” notice begins
