Because of a lack of available information either on the records themselves or 'out there' generally, we're going to have major issues with this.
Just to take one example (and no criticism of anyone should be inferred from this), if you look at the UK Columbia listing, we have a date given for - for example - DB 2725 of 1941, and yet we have three Josef Locke discs with lower cat#s in the 'DB' sequence which must have been from no earlier than 1946, as Locke didn't start recording for Columbia until then.
Could anyone submitting a definite year from any source other than the label/sleeve state in their notes (or even as a comment) where they got the info from?
Also, does anyone know of any reliable sources (preferably online) for any such data?
Totally agree things are starting to get a tad random with some dates. I'm been guilty as you know, what with the Down Your Way tune.
My daughter did all the research on the dates several years ago, and I'm simply copying her info.
In future I'll just leave a blank if the dates look a bit iffy. Those in-the-know can fill them in.
Off to start scanning our 'M's today!.
PS: This site seems to have far few members than I guessed it would by now. Can 45cat have an eye-catching link emblazoned on its home page?, just a thought.

Another useful site:CHARM online discography
BTW Guys, you can make a URL show up as a link if you use the 'Insert Webpage Link' button when posting. I edited LS's posts to create links, hope you don't mind

Sorry just noticed this.
We've not really made the worlds open to the public yet but It looks like testing is 99% complete so we will be launching the websites properly tomorrow.
Hopefully we'll see new members appearing over the next few weeks.
It's all looking really neat. My visits here will be much rarer than at 45cat (which are daily) since I'm not really into 78's, 12 inch singles, CD or cassette singles, but hugely appreciate this logical expansion... it will undoubtedly follow in 45cat's wake in becoming a definitive resource and database of information.

A lot of the dates online are recording dates, not release dates. Most of the published discographies (eg Brian Rust references) are the same.
This makes 'release dating' a minefield. Parlophone UK's Argentinian Tango series (OT prefix) released from the early 1930s onwards has recordings made in the early 1920s, so if you look them up online you'll be completely scuppered.
Maybe its something you need to start here. A 'Guide to Dating' (like the biog page) for each label?
