The Pye company initially issued Nixa records. It subsequently acquired Polygon records. Some of the Polygon records it reissued as Nixa records or Pye Jazz Today records. Are there any Polygon records that say on the label that they were produced by Pye? Polygon issued at least three Polygon Jazz Today 78's.
Pye also issued Mercury, Emarcy and Vanguard records. In the price listings in catalogues I have seen codes for Emarcy 10" 78's (prefix EM) and Vanguard 10" 78's (prefix VP) but were any of these ever issued?
Pye also issued a Celtic series of 78's SN3000 - 3008.
These were by Ian McLeish and Alex Rennie. I cannot see details of SN3001.
From what I understand, Pye wanted to diversify from radios and TV sets and produce records that they could offer the customers of their appliances.
To do this they bought the then independent Nixa Records i 1953. Two years later they bought Polygon mainly to get Pet Clark's contact ...her records, along with Joe Henderson's, immediately turned up the same year on Pye-Nixa so the label wasnt used very long at all.
The Jazz Today masters on Polygon were reissued on the black Pye labels so you get the feeling that there wasnt much interest in keeping Polygon alive at all
